Chasing Rainbows... CONT

A pic of the safari, she is still pretty clean.

We decided to turn back. Anyways we will do this track while going back to hunder, right now camels were waiting

Instead of the main road, took a small longer rote which went by the river

This is where we came from
5000kms and 12 Passes, a 20 day wild wild ride to the roof of the world!-650523145_kmmtjl.jpg

The skies were clearing. Weather changes there in seconds. But still some rainbow left
5000kms and 12 Passes, a 20 day wild wild ride to the roof of the world!-650523711_fhqqel.jpg

A shot of the steed.

It was finally time to head back. Dune crossing time again.
The offroad tires gave confidence to park right on the dune. I did not decrease air pressure as the dune was not that soft. The rain had packed it up slightly.
Meanwhile, the rainbow again

The white elephant on the dune. The tires are pretty sunk in, but little throttle and she literally shakes herself out of the sand traps

You are absolutely right. This trip made every extra penny on the 4x4 worth it many times over. We went to places and did stuff which taxi wallahs could not. We saw places where no 2WD dared to venture.

I feel that the photo of the safari with the rainbow is everyone's favorite. Great pictures. This thread has got me thinking. May be next year. I will make it some day. Two of my friends are already going month for a 26 day trip. They are planning to visit Kargil and the Vaga border as well.

Cameled.....

After getting Leh'd its time to get Cameled.
I have never enjoyed riding camels. At jaisalmer also, 2 minutes were enough to convince me that the white elephant is better.
Now with a back which was still not really 100% okay, no risks.
So my wife took the camel ride(150 for 15min is what the cartel was charging) and I clicked pics.

Now the Nubra camels are special. they are Bactrian camels, i.e. 2 hump camels and are critically endangered. Their other habitats are the deserts of mongolia, which has topography and climate similar to leh.

As for why 2 humps and not one, it has all to do with copulation.
Female camels watch lot of TV esp FTV and are heavy influenced by anorexia. So to be classified as good looking, mails have to be thin. Now the males love eating and at the same time they love sex too.

So they have devised a solution. During heat season they do not eat for 45 days, and no water for 20 days. This gives them FTV model figure and females are happy.

Therefore 2 humps for sex.

Anyways, without much ado, its time to camel

Sun is coming out and rainbows are gone
5000kms and 12 Passes, a 20 day wild wild ride to the roof of the world!-650529253_un4rdl.jpg
Lighting is tricky. Sun is behind me, albeit slightly hidden, and sun shining on the distant mountain is little too bright, leading to a back lit scene, anyways arent they cute?

As I was mentioning, they are extremely errr... colorful
Look at the position

mmm says camel one to camel 2, and they are kids, I wonder what adults would be like

Sun is trying to come out now, but clouds have not given up, its going to rain again

In the background are the tourists

As I click camels, its started to drizzle again. The sun is out, but so is the rain
5000kms and 12 Passes, a 20 day wild wild ride to the roof of the world!-650538521_qprv7l.jpg
With Sun and rain, I expect a rainbow. But I am wrong. Not one rainbow, but 2!!

This time its so big that I can't capture it in one frame. 18mm is not wide enough!

the rain is making the lens wet, but I keep clicking. Nubra is truly heaven. How can someone go to Leh and not go to Nubra, its just 4 hours away!
