Qalaah'-as-Salah-ad-Din Part 3

The Police museum was closed as it was the Namaaz time. It was getting hot so we proceeded to Mosque Mohd-an-Nasir. Very ordinary. The ceiling had chandan logs which were exported from India. The security man provide this information and took extra care of our shoes and laid them ready when we came back. So, went a baksheesh of LE 5/- (he was not happy).

In another corner, as we went a security man stopped us that its prohibited to go ahead. Well, I could see a couple going ahead. So, it was another LE 10. The way lead to Joseph’s Well used during those times to provide water supply. It was in rumbles and nothing there to see. But a good way to make some fast money.

Finally we left in the afternoon at 2pm and came back by taxi.

The photographs follows.....

TaueranBull,

That's some excellent coverage of Egypt there with some beautiful pictures.

Had a chance to visit St' Katherine & Cairo last month. It was part of a Holy Land trip with one night each at both the places. Couldn't explore much but had a chance to visit the Egyptian museum, the Pyramids & went for a Nile Dinner Cruise.

Unfortunately we were part of a organized group and I couldn't spend much time at these locations. The Egyptian museum I felt needed at least 2 days and the Pyramids was just like a photo stop, we hardly spent an hour there

Cairo city traffic was chaotic like many Indian cities. I found a lot of old Cars, esp Fiats & those VW archaic omnibuses. Egyptian drivers will surely beat Indians in a honking match and most of them had their cell phones glued to their ears while driving.

Anyway no regrets, planning to return next year with more time to spend in Egypt.

Yeah thats true. Traffic is very fast too and without any rules. Its extremely difficult to cross the road. its an art here. As you must have seen two wheelers are non existent. Its cars and mini buses mostly. There is lot of variety in cars. I will cover that separately.

Great pics TaureanBull and great info.
When are you planning to visit Abu Simbel ? That is one monument that i would like to visit some day, more than even the Pyramids. I'm also a fan of historical monuments like you, so i found this thread very fascinating.

Presently, its extremely hot in the South Egypt (Luxor-Aswan area). Abu Simbel is even farther almost bordering Sudan. I would be visiting these areas in November probably when the weather is good by Nile Cruise .

Well, reading this thread now as I was out of town last weekend & was busy before that. The sound of Egypt reminds me of Mummy, dog headed human, people fearing cats. Good to see Egypt city too & wish you post more of those for me, if I'm not asking too much.

From the word Sandstorm I can recall only about Jaisalmer. How do people cope up with sandstorm? Some lights on this is appreciated.

You forgot to mention the Pyramids and the Sphinx . Yes, I will keep posting pictures on every aspect of life here. I wont disappoint you.

Well, its not like Jaisalmer sandstorm. It just passes through the area and next day is a clear day. The sand does enter the houses but surprisingly very less, may be it goes away with the wind. The duration is not more than an hour or two. Not much of a problem.

By the way people here dont fear cats. Cats are pious and they are common like dogs in India. Every street and corner there is a bunch of cats. I have stopped caring about cats crossing my path ... they are far too many.
