GD Sahab,
It has to be an Alpha Male to attract two females. Unfortunately most of us humans don't have the animal instincts to see that in you.
That is a super shot of the deer hung in the jaws of death, eager to see more from our lens. It is BP time all night.

phamilyman,
No way they are famished, both are very healthy and extremely experienced mothers and predators.

Hitanshu, don't compare an adult male to a female. Male tigers are big and if you had seen Charger or B 2 of Bandhav then ST-4 would pale in comparison.

Collarwaali and Badi Maa are not famished. They are lactating mothers to 5 & 2 cubs respectively that are 4-5 months old.

Apart from protecting their cubs from the vagaries of jungle, they also have to feed them. Pictures don't do justice to them. You have to see them in person to appreciate the feline grace.

Rarest of the rare find...

I had to post this. I thought I would wait till I reach back home, sort out the photographs, process them to .jpg and then start uploading. But couldn't wait..

While roaming in Pench with Abheek on the 17th evening, looking for the Baaghin Naala Tigress & a leopard that was there on the previous evening as confirmed by the insistent Cheetal & Langur alarm calls, we found this very rare, seldom seen nocturnal animal.

Asian Palm Civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus), also called Toddy Cat

Gd bhai,
Looks like you guys are having a rocking time there. looking forward to some great shots.
Civet sighting is rare and this time you too are lucky to shoot it.
Liked the collarwaali shot.

By the by in malayalam it is also know as "Marapatti" and 3-4 of them are regulars on the "Chatt" of my ancestral house at Kerala.

GD Sir,

I envy you and Ghoshda for your time in Pench and the kind of sighting you guys have done. Yes, it is rare to see Civet cats. Do you know that Civet coffee is the costliest coffe in the world? These cats eat coffee fruits and excrete the seeds. The seeds are collected from their droppings and coffee made out of that!!! The process of drying and curing coffee which normally takes seven days is done by these cats in 24 hours!!

Very small amount of Civet coffee is produced in India with most coming from Indonesia and Vietnam.

Enough of coffe talk. Let us see what you have in store and hope you will have good sighting in Kanha which is rateher difficult beacsue of vast area and have to be lucky unlike Pench where all tigers seem to like Ghoshda

GD Sab, Definately agree with you that this is one of the rarely species today. Great capture. Toddy Cat are native to ASIAPAC.
