re: The official alloy wheel show-off thread. Lets see your rims!

A friend recently got his polo oem alloys painted. Haven't seen in person yet but the finish looks excellent.

The finish seems excellent but in my opinion, your friend just ruined a lovely set of Borbet wheels. I feel a gunmetal shade would've been more suitable.

Do those alloys have a negative offset ?? As I am looking at alloys to sit out a little than stock, more in the line of the arches. I feel the stock tyres sit way too inside the arch. Else find a 235/60/16 tyres (which simply are unavailable)

Avoid going for wider tires. Get spacers instead. H&R Trak+ are available through Pete's. Else you can import. The cost varies depending upon the thickness.

The shade and style is his choice, nothing can be done about that.

What i like is the final finish achieved.

No, these alloys don't have negative offset.
I too like the alloys to sit out a little, but didn't want to compromise the ride+handling combination. Incase you want wider tires, i would suggest Hankooks (17 inches and wider). I personally do not like low profile tyres on SUVs. More the meat on the wheels, beefier it looks

re: The official alloy wheel show-off thread. Lets see your rims!

I agree with your POV xploSID. I do not want to at all reduce the sidewall height. But I am hunting ideally for 235/60/16's which I have not found so far.

As for compromise on ride & handling, I would compromise on neither if I get a negative offset alloy which makes the tyre sit out more than it's present position. It would improve the looks big time though.

himanshu_j Ya spacers are an option, but the way the the rims are bolted to the hub, it may be a problem. The nuts are to be fixed into just threads on the hubs, which is how it was / is on the Skoda as well. Fitting has to be perfect, lest the thread is ruined 7 leads to problems. Hub centring rings are a definate requirement to, so this is not as simple as it would be on say a Jap car. I may be wrong, but that is my perception.

Cheers

Looks very good. Goes well with the white. How much did it cost you?

I agree, though ruined may not be the appropriate word.
Just wait for a few days, when alloys get a bit old, they will start looking extremely dull,a shade of grey/gunmetal would have looked perfect.

Yes they are good ones. I checked it out in superskoda.com, Bought few stuffs online. But the MissionL concept is hyper silver right ? As u said black or something dark kinda gun metal gives a chunky look. Now am thinking whether to go for a wheel with Lip or not. Anyways keep updated if you guys found something good.
Would really recommend not to go for a rim with a lip. Don't really think it'd add up to the more classy and elegant design of the rapid
