Re: MRF ZLO Performance Tyres

Performance tyres will definitely be more noisy than something like yoko dB or Michelin energy.

Re: MRF ZLO Performance Tyres

Changed the Conti tyres on my Figo which had run 40k kms to Zlo's in 195/60 14 size.

I have driven less than 100 kms since the change and initial impressions are -fun .
There are just two sizes in 14 and I went for this since since the other one was 185/70 and I didn't want a higher sidewall since I was coming from 185/65 size already.
Grip level which I experienced on few occasions were good and tracking was at a level not felt before. , But it is kind of spoilt by the soft sidewall which tends to lean/pitch the car more which wasn't experienced on my older tyres. I am sure it is a matter of getting used to and being a Figo which has a brilliant set up anyway, it is going to be more enjoyable.

Tyre noise was lesser than I expected . Yet to drive in the wet.

Overall , I am happy with the purchase and I got a size I wanted for the price of a stock size of a XM2.

After reading the positive reviews here, I too plunged-in and bought myself a set of ZLO's @ 195/60 R15 for my Swift but that IMO was a bad decision overall. There was something wrong with the tyre or the pattern.

And the tyres when viewed from rear look fantastic thanks to the pattern and grooves it gets in the 195 section. I loved it but it was a sad 6000 kms in my car's ownership.

Have a look here: MRF Z.L.O - Humming Noise

Do keep an eye on this issue as you clock miles on your car. Sorry ear.

I think it has something to do with inconsistent quality control. I changed my ZLOs with XM2 a few months back after completing more than 60k on them. The humming noise started only after 50k kms and it was not that prominent. In fact, I think the overall grip and control was better in my ZLOs than XM2.

Yes Anurag, I did read your experience and that added to the decision process in a big way.
I checked otherwise too with people who had used them and all of them had praises.
I am hoping that your issue was a one off.

Anyway my mind was set on Zlo and which is why at the end I went for it although XM2 from what I read was the best all rounder, ( I had asked you too).
The MRF showroom guy tried bumping off a single old stock tyre to me, thankfully I checked the date and threw it back at him.

I am more concerned about wet road drives since the Conti's I had were brilliant in the wet and I enjoy driving in the wet, so let's see how it goes.

Re: MRF ZLO Performance Tyres

I have recently purchased a set of ZLO for my ecosport , 215/55 - although the good year that I'm replacing had the worst grip even in dry conditions it lasted me 65k kms - hardest compound tyre i think. I hope there should not be much of a problem while upgrading from a 60 profile to a 55 profile tyre. Mileage and ODO readings.

Re: MRF ZLO Performance Tyres

40k kms now on these tyres, not a single puncture. There were a couple of times that a nail was embedded in the tyre, but it did not loose air.
Road noise is pretty high, but apart from that am satisfied.
My tire profile was 195 / 60 / R15, purchased 4 tyres in 2013 for 20k.

Re: MRF ZLO Performance Tyres

@Nikhilb2008 - I would like to know your suggestion of tyres for Polo GT TSI. If I stick to stock rim size which tyres would be good to go for 205 / 55R15 spec.

If I plan to upsize to 16, what is your suggestion on 205 / 50 R16.

Thank you

Am a bit surprised on the road noise bit. What were you running before the ZLOs? Also, were the ZLOs noisy from the beginning for you or started after completing some kms?

My Swift had ZLOs after Potenza and was a lot more silent being comfort oriented tyres. The Potenza was a lot more fun in the corners but quite noisy above 90 kmph. ZLOs were silent till 100 kmph but.

I think anything wider than 195/60-15 on a Polo is a waste of good money.

Stick to 195/60-15. You have lots of options. Read around TBHP to get an idea.

205/55-15 has fewer options and will make your ride harder and have an effect on your fuel economy.

16" is even worse.

Re: MRF ZLO Performance Tyres

Thanks @Nikhilb2008. I went with 195/60-15.
Here's the pic with Momo Revenge Evo wheels. The ride quality is really good and I'm enjoying the GT experience.

Re: MRF ZLO Performance Tyres

A big shout out to Nikhil Bee.
Installed Zlos in my #crio after 22500 kms of character less, puncture full drive on Falken 835 Sinceras. The tires had distorted and the car vibrated after 100.kmph.
With the zlos, I'd say, the story took QUITE a turn (pun intended.)
Done around 200 kms with the zlos already. I must say, I am highly impressed. They're 195/60 r14s

So much so that I decided to get the Zsports for my Polo the very next day!
These are 205/55 r15s

Congratulations. I used the same size on my 2008 Verna CRDI (one size upsize from the stock 185/65 R14s). The tyres ran flawlessly for 40K kms without too many punctures and fantastic grip in dry and wet. One sore point that may develop is a characteristic whup whup sound (discussed to death already on this thread) that will make you worry that your axle bearing is kaput. Just rotate them on a regular basis. The sound will fade away as the tyres grow older.
