How to tell the Manufacturing Date of Michellin PP2?

Hi,
How do tell the maunfacturing date of my tyre or more specifically the manufacture date of Michellin PP2.
If I am to buy a new set this month, I know the younger tyre the better, but how old should it not be, if you know what I mean. I dont want a really old stock of the tyres thats why I ask...
Thanks a lot for the help...

Mostly tyre manufacturer's follow four digit code, first two digits for week number of the year and next two digits for the year e.g. 2508 would mean 25th week of the year '08.

Hope Michelin also follow the same code.

4/5 week old tyre should be fine to buy.

Sorry to revive and hijack an old thread. I recently went shopping for a 1 spare tire for Getz stock size 155/80-13. I was looking for either Bridgestone or the factory fitted Goodyear GPS2.

Stranegly, 2-3 dealers told me that this size is not in production anymore. Those guys were trying to sell me a May 2007 manufactured tire, which I flatly refused.

What is the maximum timeframe that I can go back to, if I want to buy a tire? I believe nothing more than 6 months right?

Also, which brands are good for tubed? I was preferring GY GPS 2 @2350 per tire as it was also the stock tire on the Getz.

According to conventional wisdom, a tyre is supposed to last for about 5 years, even if the thread is fine. Therefore you should try to get as new a tyre as possible. This is the theory part. In real life you should try to find the tyre that is latest in the market and buy that. If 16 months is the newest in your market then that's what you have to buy. But I refuse to believe that in Bombay the newest tyre in that size is May 07. Go to other shops.

@nishantgandhi:
Don't know if this is still relevant to you, but on the car I booked recently, I saw 'Jul08' on its stock GPS2 tyres. These were tubeless though.

Yes, Michellin follows the four-digit format. First two indicate the week, and the next two show the year.

Re: How to tell the Manufacturing Date of a Tyre

Hi,
I've just bought a hyundai igen i20 1.4 diesel (yay!)
Delivery is in a couple of days.
I was checking the tyres for the DOT code, but I couldn't find anything that I could make sense of.
The tyres are Apollo Acelere 185/65/r14 (stock) and the DOT is followed by P06L
Any idea what DOT P06L means? I hope I didn't miss anything when reading the code. I don't think there was anything following this value.

I checked the VIN and the car is of Dec'13 (so I hope the tyres are fairly recent as well, but need to confirm)

If VIN indicates Dec'13 as manufacturing month, tyres should show 'nn13' as tyre manufacturing code. Please search for such 4 digits marked in a oval shape to indicate start/manufacturing of tyre.

Please check 2nd picture in below mentioned post, it shows DOT code for tyre as 2505 indicating manufacturing in 25th week of 2005.

Thanks sukiwa. I will take a look (when I next see the car).
P.S. I found out today there's a lot of stuff written (in small print) on the tyres besides the size and weight and speed ratings and DOT. Will check all that out as well.

I checked the tyre. The code is on the inner side of the tyre... checked it on the spare. 1.5 month old tyres.
