To be honest, the tyres have no made a difference to the ride at all. It is still as harsh as it was on the Eagle F1s.

Performance tyres are not designed for ride comfort.

Stock tyre size for 2003 Mercedes C200 W203?

I need new tyres for my Mercedes-Benz C-Class C200 (W203), but I have a bit of a problem with the sizing.

The C200 I bought a couple of years ago came with 205/65/R15 Michelins on stock rims, but the spare rim had a 195/65R15 Goodyear. I know that the spare tires are sometimes smaller—either because it's lighter and saves space or the manufacturer decided to save cost—but I don't know if that's the case with the C200.

I saw the tyre upsizing chart xls file in another post, which states that the stock C200 is 195/65R15, which means the previous owner probably upsized the main tyres. However, the same upsizing chart also states that the recommended upsize for 15" wheels is 205/60R15. The size profile in the xls is 5% lower than the one that's already in my car.

If you own a 2003 C200 W203, can you tell me what your original tyre size is or was? If you know someone else who owns this model, can you check with him/her?

I've driven for two years on the 205/65s and, while I can't complain about the ride comfort or the noise (it's been extremely smooth and quiet), I'd like to consider going back to stock to see if it improves handling and FE.

I'm also not sure about which tyre brand and model to go for. I'm interested in the Yokohama Earth 1, but I'm not sure if that's as smooth and quiet as the Michelins already on the car.

I mostly ride in the city between town and suburbs, but the occasional out of town trip to Pune or Nashik does happen. And I tend to push her a bit closer to 150-160kmph when I get the chance.

To sum up my query: I need to know the stock size of the 2003 C200 W203 and the most smooth and quiet tyres I can buy in that stock size.

If you have any other upsize/downsize recommendations, I'm all ears!

Thanks!

re: Mercedes C-Class : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

In case anyone comes looking for this info: the stock W203 2003-2005 tyre size is 195/65R15.

I have currently only replaced one tyre, so I've stuck to the existing 205/65R15 size.

Need help Upgrading tyres for Mercedes C Class.

Ok guys, I need some help.

I own a w204 Mercedes C Class currently running on company fitted tyres. The size is 225/45 R17.

I'm thinking of upgrading it to 245/45 R17. Is it wise to do so?

Pros of upgrading to 245/45 R17 (from what I have been guided anyway):

- Better grip.
- Better Handling.
- Slightly bigger tyre sidewall to decrease chances of damage to the alloys. (if we calculate 45% of 245 as compared to 45% of 225)
- Slightly improved comfort.

Cons of upgrading to 245/45 R17:

- 225's slim sidewall looks better and much sportier.
- Lower fuel economy.

Please Guide me on the above points. I maybe wrong in some of them. I would appreciate some help. Thanks in advance!

Re: Need help Upgrading tyres for Mercedes C Class.

I would not recommend this at all! It is not a proportionate upgrade. You can upgrade to 255/40 R17, this will give you all the grip and handling with a sidewall that is just 1mm taller meaning a 2mm difference in diameter such a small difference would be favorable. Since it will look just the same except with a wider contact patch

Hmm... Sounds promising and well though advise. Thanks a lot IshaanIan. But im not sure how much the price difference would be between 245/45 and 255/40. Any rough idea?

New tyres for Merc C220 - Help me decide!

Hi everyone

My car urgently needs new Tyres and I am having a hard time deciding which ones to go for. Its a 2010 model C220 CDI (W204) and the OEM size is 205/55 R16.

I have been looking online and these ones suite the pocket at this point:

Hankook - Ventus V12 Evo
Pirelli - P7 Cinturato
Yokohama Advan Sport
Bridgestone - B 290

All these tyres are roughly 8000-8500k each (online prices), Bridgestone is slightly cheaper but the are specifically designed for India so I am assuming there must be some advantage to those as well?

Any other recommendations in this price range?

Thanks a bunch!

Re: Mercedes C-Class : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hello Guys:
I need to change the tyres of my C 200 Kompressor W204 ( bought in 2008) and i would be glad if some one could answer the following:
  1. The OEM is 205/55 R 16 91V Goodyear- Made in Indonesia
  2. Should i buy tubeless run flat or just tubeless?
  3. Should i buy slightly wider tyres or stick to the original?
  4. Should we not buy tyres which RE made in India( suitable for our roads and weather)?
Would be glad to get some advise.

@kk21
Could you share details if you have bought new tyres? Thanks.

Buy regular tubeless, no need for runflats.

Stick to original size. The 200k doesn't require any more grip.

See what is available in your size and make the call. I would recommend Michelin Primacy 3ST.

Thank you, @akshay1234

Just changed to Michelin Primacy 3 ST. Same size. Cost Rs 34000/- for 4, with wheel balancing and alignment. Good professional job at Hemant Tyres, Ahmedabad.

Great how is the difference in terms of silence and ride compared to the Goodyears which IMO are quite terrible.

Early days yet. Shall do a longish run and report. The dealer also mentioned about the (bad & unreliable) quality of Goodyear. One surprising feedback. The tyres were NOT run-flat though the information booklet (MB) states they were. One of my friends who bought a new E class from Mumbai about 2 years back also observed that MB had given him 2 year old tyres. Why does MB compromise on their Brand equity by such shenanigans?

Re: Mercedes C-Class : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hello,

I've a 2008 W204 C220 CDI Elegance with stock wheel size of 205/55 R16. It was running on Goodyear Assurance Triplemax for about 45,000 KMs and needed a tyre change. I was considering the following tyres:

1) Pirelli P7
2) Michelin PST 4
3) Goodyear Assurance Triplemax
4) Pirelli P6
5) Falken Azenis PT722
6) Falken Ziex ZE914 Ecorun

I usually buy tyres from Pungaliya Tyres in Shivajinagar, Pune. I went to their store and I was confused between the Pirelli P6 and Falken Ziex ZE914 Ecorun. Pirelli for the P6 tyre was offering 3 years warranty (1 year unconditional + 2 years against manufacturing defects) whereas on the other hand, Falken were offering 3 years unconditional warranty on the Ecoruns.

After lot of thought I went for the Falken Ziex ZE914 Ecoruns. They costed me 6750/- a piece including alignment and balancing, so 27,000/- for a set of 4. My Car came with CPC2 as stock. I wanted to buy the Michelins but they were overpriced at about 7750/- a piece and Michelins only offer warranty against manufacturing defects. Mr. Pungaliya assured me that the Falkens are equivalent in ride comfort but are more on mileage and sidewall thickness.

After the change following are my impressions:

1) Road noise was so less compared to the Goodyears!
2) Ride handling and grip is phenomenal.
3) Wet grip is also excellent.
4) I've driven about 10,000 Kms on these tyres in different conditions from heavy rain to bumpy and non existent roads and they were wonderful.
5) have not faced any puncture since the change.
6) High Speed stability is also great
7) Braking performance is also good.

I have driven a C220 with Michelin PST4 and I can definitely say the Falkens are definitely equivalent but they cost much less and last definitely more.

I can surely say, these tyres are underrated. I've had a positive experience and will definitely urge people to opt for these. Its definitely worth a try.
