Hi Glifford,

The dealer never buys back the old ones. There are few local folks who usually have these puncture shop and tyre retreading shops. They usually come to these dealer shops when a car comes in for a tyre change.

When I changed my indica's OEM tires, I saw atleast 3 of them come and talk to me to finalize the deal for the old ones.

The old tyres are sold in the road side small vendors as second hand used tyres. I was surprised to know for the fact that they sell the tyres for price which is nearly half the original prize. For example Bridgestone Potenza tyres of 195/60/R15 costs somewhere between 4100 - 4250. The second hand tyres will be sold between 1800 -2000 and you can bargain the price to 1500 if you are lucky. I have a first hand experience in this when one of my friend told about this and out of curiosity I wanted to checkout this place. There are tyre store opposite to the Sathyam Cine complex in Chennai. These guys sell used tyres and believe me I have seen tyres with 90% thread depth and no side wall damage or puncture. If you are lucky you will get tires that are stock and are given away for upgrading to alloys. These are the places where the taxi guys change their tires.

And how much OEM steel RIMs sell for and where to sell them in bangalore ? One obvious way is to sell at the rate of 8 Rs per kg as scrap metal to local kabari.

I have 5 new 6.5 J R 16 Steel rims lined up in my parking space which Alloy dealer packed in my boot.

Hi Glifford,

There is Madhu's tyres on JC Road. Once you cross the minerva circle and enter the JC road, you will find the 1st signal. The shop is just before this signal on the left.

Hi i recently changed my stock tyres to apollo Accelers. I have done 45000km with my Stock tyre. Its was like a F1 tyre. I was paid Rs.800 for 4 tyres since i wanted to retain one as my jack wheel.
My tyre dealer itself arranged a guy to pick my old tyres.(Cherry agency Bangalore ) just mentioned the name for our mates to make use of it if they really find it useful.

Now-a-days, no body is paying anything for the old tyres. Some dealers are so blunt saying not to leave the old tyres at his place.

By the way,do somebody know - does anyone in Hyd buy old wheel steel rims. I am planning to go for Alloys for my father's car[Verna].

While discussing with a used tyre vendor, he was mentioning that he has got 5 numbers of 175/65/R14 MRF tyres done around 3000 kms, which sale price is around Rs.4000/- (Rs.800 per tyre). (seems that were removed from Fiesta). How much he would have paid to the seller? Rs.2000-Rs.2500???

@surprise - The MRF and the indian brands wont fetch much in the second hand market, so I expect it will be sold close to Rs.1000 max per tyre. The tyre vendor pays somewhere between 300 - 800 per tyre and he will get a bargian to a max of 1200 to unsuspecting customer. This is how they work.

hello everybody

i changed my old turanza er60s to new bridgestone potenza g3s. i kept the size the same 175/65/r14 for my 2006 honda city.

i got four tyres with alignment and balancing done for 16700.

i did not go for upsizing as the dealer advised against it.

the difference i notice is that the g3s are silent as compared to er60s. i have not taken them out for a highway drive as yet.

on new tyres should i do some low speed running in city before i go out on highways?

I once saw a shop somewhere around kalasipalya or so, that had a huge number of what looked like used tires in different shapes/sizes/conditions - what's the deal with that ? Used tyre shop ?

It all depends on your bargaining skills and the rapport you share with the dealer.

I myself sold the OE Bridgestone S322's of my Accent for Rs.: 1000/- a piece, used for about 20,000 kms.
