how much is the cost per tyre for the continentals?

Honestly I don't exactly remember. I think I paid some 9-10k odd I think after exchanging the Apollos the Polo came shod with.

I am looking to get a new set of tires for my i20 (2012 face lift) Sportz CRDi. After reading this thread, seems like Earth 1 is a popular choice and XM2 is another choice if budget is not a constraint. Stock tires (Apollo Acelere) lasted for 32K in 4.5 years. Still good for another 2 ~ 3K KMs. However, the wear is bad and little uneven and due to which the car slightly pulls to left. The service center guy rotated the tire and it shown the same behavior, started to pull on the right side. They are assuring me there's absolutely no issues with shocks and wheel alignment. They advised heavily on changing the tires. I tend to believe since I did drive during these trials and observed the behavior. I welcome any suggestions & comments if I needed to check suspension more closer in addition to tires.

Coming back to tires, I was just trying to learn from manufacturer's website and saw that XM2 shows discontinued in Michelin India website. May be it is only for 185/65 R14 which is stock spec of i20 Asta and Sportz. I am almost convinced for Earth 1. My driving is 85% city and 15% highway.

I believe that XM2 and Earth-1 are 2 competing yet different tyres for slightly different needs. Earth-1 is an intermediate compound, i.e mixing a balance of softness and sidewall rigidity which was important for me. The ride will get slightly hard after 10-15k kms of driving but that's still 10 times better than any stock tyre like Bridgestone/Goodyear. In any case it should not matter for a car with super-soft suspension like the prev-gen i20, I believe Earth-1's will be ideal for this car. XM2's are slightly softer tyres with more pliable sidewalls which will improve grip and comfort but not necessarily road-feel and durability.

After 10k+ kms with the Earth-1's I'm very happy, they look in good shape and I feel they can do 40-50k kms comfortably. They're made for India tyres afterall.

Couldn't agree with you more. 2012, aka, iGen i20, has seriously a softer suspension set-up. I was even thinking to go for Bilstein shocks should there be a bend or some issues, luckily no issues found in last week checking. Tires being my priority, I do not want to spend for shocks. Need to learn more.

BTW, any recommendations in Pune for tire swapping? HASS is only suggesting Apollo Acelere or Bridgestone B250. I am not interested in either of them. Other than Lokamanya which is far from east of Pune, I am thinking of Tire Trax in Nagar road, anyone have experienced?

I too am looking for a Tyre change for my 2012 iGen i20 Magna (P), which came with the 175/75 R14 profile on steel rims. The stock Apollo Aceleres lasted just 26k kms (yes, my car has just run that much - used by the wife, only for her daiy office commute of 10kms). I assume the faster wear is because of the 100% city use.

I was thinking of upsizing to 15" alloys to get a less bouncier ride, but then decided against putting down extra $$ on a 5yr old car. So, going by what I read above, Earth 1s seem to have a harder sidewall, which should help with a bit of stiffness.
I am running Earth 1's on my Liva for the last 1 yr (approx 16k kms now), and am totally satisfied with it. No punctures (even on a trip to Spiti).stupid:

The tyre shop guy also mentioned Bridgestone B290 (or was it B250), which were priced in the same range. Any idea on those?
I would most probably be moving to the stock size on the higher variants (185/65 R14).

I recently replaced the stock Apollo acelere tyres on my i20 with Earth1s. My car has 185/65 R14s.

I was also referred to the brigdestones but due to my prior experience with them on my i10, I decided to go with the Yokohamas.

I've about 2500 kms on these and I'm fully satisfied. They are not as soft as the Michelin's on my i10 but that to me doesn't matter much.

IMO they are excellent all-rounders.
I purchased 5 pcs at 4100 each.

Looking to replace my 60k kms old Apollo 4Gs on my Elite. What all choices I have for a spec. similar to stock tyre. (195/55 R16)

Please suggest options. Thanks.

Update: Finally went ahead with 185/70 R14 Yoko Earth 1. Had gone with 185/65 R14 in mind, but when compared side by side, the difference in height put some doubts in mind over reduced ground clearance. The dealer then suggested 185/70 R14, and went for it. Difference between 185/65 R14 and 185/70 R14 being 50 bucks per tyre also helped matters.lol:

Off topic:OT, but got the Tyres from BK Tyres in Lajpat Nagar, found a cool Rs. 600-650 difference per tyre from the rates offered by shops in Gurgaon.

I went with Yokohama earth 1 - costed 6200 each including alignment, balancing etc.

Which size did you go for? 6200 for Earth 1 seems quite expensive. Just last week got 195/65/15 Earth 1s for my BILs Punto at 4900 per tyre including WA/WB.

The rate was almost same across the multiple shops in Bangalore, that I enquired with; give or take a hundred rupees or so. Considering the effort to travel over to the cheaper shops, felt this was a better deal.

What is the initial feedback about the Yoko Earth 1s.

Here in Delhi, I am getting the 195/55 R16 profiled for.....

• Bridgestones : 6750
• Yokohama Earth 1 : 5800
• Continentals : 6250

I am totally confused which one to go for.

Initial impressions are good. Reduced road noise, better ride quality, grip etc. Even felt a slight improvement in the fuel efficiency though this I attribute more to the consistent air pressure (old ones had a few punctures).

Read in a few forums online as well as here in tbhp, that the initial experience is good and similar to what I had. However later, the behaviour changes slightly for the worse.

Since online research helped me nada on finalizing the tyre make, I went with the option available at the nearest reliable shop. :D

A colleague of mine has put 205 profile tyres (Maxxis) in his I20 Diesel 1.4 Asta (old gen - first facelift version).

Its been about 6-7 months now and he absolutely swears by the performance of these tyres.

The car too, looks really mean and aggressive after he's put these tyres on.
