Could you share pictures as to how the wheel well looks after upsizing?

Please find the picture of the new wheels vs Wheels of another similar car running on stock Alnac 4G for reference.

Note : Bottom ones are 205 55 R16. [Michelin Primacy 3 ST]
Top ones are 195 55 R16 [Apollo Alanac 4G]

How's the ride quality now with the 205 55 16? I read somewhere that the correct upsize should be 215 50 16. Hence, wanted to get your feedback.

Rahul

The ride quality is much much better than the stock ones. Can't really say if it attributes to the tyre compound or the the extra cushioning due to profile change.

Regarding 215, I would personally not go for it. The steering has become harder even at 205. My car is driven most of time in Bangalore - don't really want a harder steering. Also the car seems slightly less agile on these existing tyres - a mean acceleration. Now i don't know if is due to the clutch or the tyres itself. Maybe after the clutch replacement , I would be able to give a concrete answer.

Looks like there was a typo from my end. I meant 205 50 16 instead of 215.

Can the readers please throw some light here? I checked the online tyre size calculators and the diameter difference is within 3% for both the specs. One is -1.53% while the other is 1.77%. Don't want to trust the shop keepers here. The OEM tyre size is 195 55 16.

Thanks!
Rahul

Hey Rahul,

I had the exact same doubt . I chose to go with 55 profile primarily because of 3 reasons.

1) Easy availablilty - translating to cheaper costs (comparative).
2) Better ride quality - The ride is already harsh with the low profile . My suspension components and lower arm already took a hit from the same and I got it replaced it under warranty.
3) Low profile not so suited for India/Bangalore - I suffered a tyre sidewall cut at 2k odd reading after going over a pothole. Same for 2 more of my friends.

Hope this helps you !

Lost a tyre yesterday which developed a sidewall crack while driving on the Freeway. Need to replace this for my Elite i20 Asta which came with 195/55 R16.

Any recommendations in this size? Understand Michelin PS3s are available in 205/55 R16 and 195/55 R16 Yoko Earth-1s, any other options? Also what would be the expected price for these tyres?

Upgraded my i20 Elite stock Goodyear tyres 195/55 r16 to Yokohama Blue Earth AE50 205/55 r16, at Rs 7500/tyre.

The stock tyres had some life left, approx 5000km, but the ride was getting uncomfortable as they had clocked more than 50,000km in 3.5 years.

In the stock spec you have the following decent options :
1) Conti MC5 : Decent preformance tyres
2) Michelin XM2 : High FE and life tyres
3) Falken Sincera 835 : Have heard good reviews

In the upsized spec (205 55 R16):
1) Michelin 3STs : Great all rounder
2) Hankook Ventus V12
3) Continental MC5
4) Pirelli P7

Hi Rahul. I am posting this query on behalf of a friend who is planing to upgrade his i20 tyres to 205/55 R16. Is there any scraping of the tyres while making turns and also if there is any scraping on full load?

Thanks

I have upgraded to 205/55 r16 Yokohama Blue Earth tyres. There is no scraping problems with the tyre. But the steering does get a bit more stiff, especially at city speeds. I like it, but some might not.

Absolutely same observation as Raghav. No Scraping at all - Steering is harder, Mileage took a little hit. The ground clearance has increased can be felt while getting in and getting out.

Hi,

I own a 2019 Hyundai ELite i20 Asta(O) Diesel with 195/55 R16 Bridgestone B250 and want to upgrade to 205/55 R16.

Can you please post pictures from a side angle?

As there is no change in sidewall for the tyres which you changed, there will be no difference to see in the pictures you uploaded in this angle. Only width is increased from 195 to 205 in your tyres, so a picture from side angle will show the difference in the tyre width.

Hi Prabhu,

I thought the picture in post #92 is from the side itself. I won't be able to put more pictures as I sold the car recently.

Also, there is a change in sidewall width. The profile "55" is a ratio and not a absolute number so on 205/55 the sidewall be more than 195/55. There is more detailed explanation on another thread in the forum on exact difference in centimeters.

However, I can put my experience with the upgrade with Pros and Cons:
Pros
Cons
When I had upgraded my tires, it was my first time of such an upgrade and one of biggest motivators was getting a better quality tyre [Michelin P3ST] which had the nearest fit as 205/55 back then. Today on my newer car I would still want to upgrade the tyre it would be to a better quality rubber than looking for an upsize. But then its different for everyone, you can choose from my experience on what matters to you most as well.

Hello guys,

Booked a 2019 i20 Sportz+ DSL. I have got an offer to replace the stock rims and tyres (15 inch) to the ones available bon the top end Asta O (16 inch). I will be opting for Continental MC5 (195/55-16 stock size) and OEM diamond cut rims.

Is this a good upgrade to my car? I think this won't mess around with the dynamics, components and FE as the top end comes with the combo. Suggestions welcome.
