Re: Hyundai i20 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I am owning a 2017 Elite i20 Sportz Crdi and the stock Bridgestone B250 have built cracks. This car has got 185/70 R14 tyres and I do not have any plans to upgrade the size. Could you please suggest me a good tyre which can provide good wet surface handling. My drives are going to be about 20% on bad roads (with out tarmac) 50% on the highways and 30% on city.

Re: Hyundai i20 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Dad has Elite i20 Asta (0) from 2015. Minimal mileage - about 40k. Tyres are beginning to get worn. His dealer told him to get new Continentals. But I think that's probably because he is getting good margins. Give me some recommendations if possible. Thanks.

Hello

Assuming that the size is 195/55R16…the dealer is right to say that the stock 7 year old tyres need to be changed, regardless of the remaining depth.

If you want to go for a more VFM product I would suggest the Ceat Securadrive which is ~2k per tyre cheaper than the Conti UC6 for this size and comes as stock fitment in the new i20. Ceat’s product portfolio has improved a lot in recent years.

Re: Hyundai i20 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

hello, Need advice on good tyres for elite i20 Asta that has R16 rims.

Stock tyre size : 195/55 R16
Question : Is upgrade to 195/60 R16 recommended?
Upgrade causes Difference in circumference: 61.26 mm or 3.14 % which is usually not recommended but not bad either, IMHO.
Have you done such an upgrade and can recommend based on your experience?

If "Yes" to the above question:
what tyre brand and variant would you recommend?
1. Michelin Primacy 3 ST-195/60R16-89H (indicative price : 7700 per tyre on amazon; 10300 per tyre on tyremarket.com pricey on tyremarket or is amazon seller selling old or broken stock?)
2. Michelin Primacy 4 ST-195/60R16-93V (indicative price : 10450 per tyre on tyremarket.com pricey on tyremarket)
3. Goodyear Assurance Triplemax 195/60 R16 (indicative price : 6900 per tyre on amazon; 7500 per tyre on tyremarket.com)
4. Continental UC6 195/60 R16 89V (indicative price : 8200 per tyre on amazon; 8800 per tyre on tyremarket.com)
5. Apollo Alnac 4G 195/60 R16 89H (indicative price: 6650 per tyre on amazon; 6466 per tyre on tyremarket.com)
6. Yokohama AE50 195/60 R16 89H (indicative price : 8200 per tyre on amazon)
7. Yokohama Tyre Earth-1 E400 195/60 R16 89H (indicative price : 7900 per tyre on tyremarket.com)
8. Vredestein ULTRAC 195/60 R16 89V (indicative price : 7145 per tyre on tyremarket.com; note it is lesser than 195/55 R16)
9. Bridgestone Turanza T001 (indicative price : 8850 per tyre on tyremarket.com)
10. Ceat SecuraDrive 195/60 R16 89V (indicative price 5750 per tyre on tyremarket.com)

If "No" to the above question and advice is to stick to stock size
what tyre brand and variant would you recommend?
1. Michelin Primacy 4 195/55R16-87V (indicative price: 9400 per tyre on amazon, 9950 per tyre on tyremarket.com ; note its pricey and Primacy 4 not available for 195/60 R16)
2. Goodyear Assurance TripleMax 195/55 R16 87V (indicative price : 6600 per tyre on amazon; 6200 per tyre on tyremarket.com)
3. Apollo Alnac 4G 195/55 R16 87V (indicative price :7310 per tyre on amazon; note that 195/60 R16 89H is cheaper)
4. Continental ContiUltraContact UC6 195/55 R16 87V (indicative price : 8000 per tyre on amazon; 8760 per tyre on tyremarket.com note UC not available for 195/60 R16)

7. Yokohama Tyre S-Drive AS01 195/55 R16 85V (indicative price : 8300 per tyre on tyremarket.com)
8. Continental Conti Max Contract 195/55 R16 87V (indicative price : 8420 per tyre on amazon; MC not available for 195/60 R16)
9. Vredestein ULTRAC 195/55 R16 87V (indicative price : 7750 per tyre on tyremarket.com)

Hi Rajesh,

Most of the Michelin tyres available in market are 2021 make only. If you wish then you can take but there are lot of cheaper but premium tyres available today. I would suggest you to visit the reputed tyre shops and get the quote.

I also suggest you to consider the following tyres for your Elite i20 Asta.

1. Continental UC 6 - Soft compound tyre for plush ride, would cost around 7.9K per tyre (2 Year unconditional warranty)
2. Yoko Earth 1 - Made for India tyre (Cost around 7.5k to 7.7k) vary on dealer. It comes with 5 year unconditional warranty.
3. Yoko BluEarth GT - Soft compound tyre for plush ride(Cost around 7.7k to 7.9k per tyre). It comes with 5 year warranty.
4. Vredestein Ultrac - Soft compound and made for India Tyre. Cost around 7.6k per tyre. Comes with 6 years unconditional warranty.
5. MRF Perfinza- Surprisingly very good tyre. Getting good review across the spectrum. Would cost around 7.5k to 7.7k based on dealer.

All the above tyres are good. Just visit a Tyre shop and decide what your heart says.

Just yesterday I replaced the Goodyear Assurance TripleMax (195/55 - R16) tyres with Vredestein Utlrac (195/55 - R16) tyres in my Elite i20 Asta (O).

Total tyre cost was Rs.30400 (4*7600) including wheel alignment and balancing. The tyres were from Week 41 of 2022. I chose Vredestein because of warranty offered and the reviews were also good.

If you are worried about bad roads then choose Yoko Earth 1 else go for any of the above tyres. Nowadays Indian manufacturers are producing very competitive tyres. So you can choose the tyre based on your need.

Good luck

Thanks,
TK

Re: Hyundai i20 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Guys, Have already booked i20 Nline N8 imt and as everybody @ TeamBHP has opined about the bad quality of stock Ceat Secura Drive 195/55 R16, I am thinking of change/upsize asap as I get my hand on wheels.

So, here are my query:
1. What is the best upsize: 205/50/R16 or 205/55/R16?
2. What will be the pros & cons of upsizing to 205/55/R16 in terms of fuel efficiency, drive comfort, steering & cornering?
3. Continental UC6 or MC5 or Michelin P4ST which is the best for above mentioned concerns?

Thanks in Advance

Re: Hyundai i20 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi Nliner,

I've used all three sizes on my petrol Elite i20, if you're not planning to change the rims to wider ones anytime soon I'll recommend you stay at the stock size 195/55/R16 as the 205 section is a little bit broad for a stock 6J rim.

If you still go for the upsize I'll recommend the 205/50/R16 as a 55-section tyre will raise the overall ground clearance and it'll ruin the driving dynamics instead of improving it.

I believe you upgraded from 195/55/R16 to 195/65/R16. This looks to be an increase of more than 6% in the diameter. How has been your experience with the upgrade so far? Any issues related to tyre scraping, lower mileage etc?

I have bought a pre-loved elite i20 Asta cvt (2019 model) and am finding the ride harsh with given 195/55/R16 and thinking of going for an upgrade to 195/60/R16.

Hey mate,

Sorry for a super late reply. I upgraded from 185/65 R15 to 195/55 R16

Mine is the Sportz+ 2019 model. I upsized the alloys tot he ones from Asta R16 and OEM tyre size. Im very happy with the upgrade. Car has done 55K KMS since purchase. No issue at all.

Thanks Akshay. I have already upgraded from 195/55/R16 to 195/60/R16. Finding the ride to be noticeably softer due to increased sidewall height.

Re: Hyundai i20 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi All,

I have an i20 Active SX Petrol with 195/55/R16 stock tires that came with the car.

Apollo Alnac 4g tires have served me well for 4 years and have done almost 43k km

Planning on changing it now and I am not sure what Tires I should go for.

Should I stick with Apollo Alnac 4g or go for something else?

Also, is there a different Tyre choice preference between the Elite i20 and the i20 Active due to the raised suspension setup in the Active model?

Thanks in advance.

If your current tyres didn't give you any problems like often punctures or a drop in air pressure every few days, you can go for Alnac 4g else there are many other better options available in the stock size I.E. - 195/55R16, also if you haven't face any issues with the stock size it's better to stick with it.

What are some of the better options you would suggest?

I was looking at Earth-1 as well.

Re: Hyundai i20 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Continental MC5 & UC6, Vredestein ULTRAC, Yokohama (as you mentioned) & Michelin Primacy 4ST (but it's difficult to source one with recent manufacturing)

MRF Perfinza is a great option if you're willing to upsize to 205/55/R16.

Re: Hyundai i20 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I had frequent pictures on my Apollo Alnacs. So after driving for 50k km I eventually replaced them with Yoko Earth1. Comfort level is same, but it is noticeably tougher.
However, I drive on non existent roads, if you drive within the city, it makes sense to get something comfortable.
