UPK 99 is a 29 chevy.

Mr. Chowdhry doesn't participate in statesman anymore although he has the largest collection vintage and classic cars perhaps.

Yes I remeber. They were entered in the 2009 rally and subsequently moved out of calcutta.I believe they are in Bombay owned by Mr. Hormusji Cama. This blue car is a fresh restoration.

@Wasif-

WBA 2154 is a 36 Skoda owned by Mr. Aggarwal and restored by Mr. Kanoria last year. Sorry I am replying from my phone hence didn't see the pic.

In one word - Awesome !! Kolkata events are always a treat to the eyes, and this year too has it's own share of some really special eye-candy

The blue Citroen is fabulous. Details on this one please !!

The lowlight Minor is fab, so is the black Traction. And the Chevy UPK 99.

John's Fiat 1100 as usual, stirs the right chords in my heart !!

Wow i thought it looked horrible! The bodystyle on the p5 just does not take these colours, thats why it came in very limited sober colours. Maybe i'll list the colour combos that were available on the rover thread.

Re: The 2012 Kolkata Statesman Vintage & Classic Car Rally

The judging in Kolkata must be over by now, lets hear in the next days how things went.

Cheers harit[/quote]

With the inclement weather in Calcutta over the last 3 days it was not a bad turning out at all. Leaving aside the Army judges, the Statesman appointed Judges can only be termed as a hilarious bunch!! A spoof movie can be made on the total lot. I would leave it to MBZ 180 to fill you in details on these clowns!!!

Bulldogji, I repeat we entered one of my cars for the sake of entry, as the car was not at all anyway near 50% up to the mark.

Cheers

Hi Amit, see better is always a matter of taste. Just like admiring a painting or a work of art. I agree with you that with the new scheme the car stands out from the pack. But what I merely would like to emphasize that when the car was designed they introduced the side trim in 1959 (was absent in the prototypes) to facilitate the two tone body work (keeping in mind american markets). There were very limited colours that the design team thought were right for the car to maintain its poise. In UK the early cars never came with whitewalls, however when limited exports started to america in the early 60's narrow whitewalls were introduced.

Sorry! My reaction was quite knee jerk being a owner of a P5 myself. No offense meant to the owner or the car. After all its a matter of taste. I would not paint my car in this scheme though if I were to go two tone. Cheers the mole

Without meaning to offend anyone, I have noticed that restorations in Kolkata surely have a bling effect with bright colours and chrome. We had once discussed how a car got converted to a Deluxe with side mounted stepney's etc. Plain black means you are not likely to be noticed in the Kolkata scene.

The Mittal Nash Phaeton is really a nice looking car, needing a desperate fix of the roof. A well fitting roof will make the car look even better.

Adkol, nice the see the pictures of your car being judged.

Looking forward to more pictures of the event

Cheers

Re: The 2012 Kolkata Statesman Vintage & Classic Car Rally

Joining in the discussion about bling restorations. There are two basic different concepts for restoration, restore to original or restore to the "bling effect". For bling effect we add unnecessary chrome and apply noticeable colour schemes which are..... well noticed, but hurt the eye. I prefer the first. See the Beetle pictures below and decide for yourself,
one picture taken from this thread, the others from
Down On The Street: 1959 Volkswagen Beetle - World Car News - CarMK.NET and
1959 Used Volkswagen Beetle at Chequered Flag International Serving Marina Del Rey, CA, IID 2866634

The question is: Bling vs original, which would you prefer?

Cheers harit
