The first two are those of a mid 1950's Dodge Kingsway whose hood has been chopped off.
The two lower pictures are those of the Russian Military Jeep known as the UAZ 469. It was the Red Army jeep that was in production since 1972 that was powered by the Peugeot Citreon 2500cc/72 bhp engine-was a turbo diesel perhaps. These were sold in Europe too and the older 1980's Auto Express car buyers guides features it.

Mean while here are some pictures of Bangalore Gujari, Sunday Morning

The landmaster has been sold already, the morris was having Standard Herald Gear box, could not open the engine hood to view the engine.
Saw the Morris on Saturday. Couldn't open the hood, it was jammed solid. Only the bumpers and transmission might be usable. I ran into Arun by coincidence, he told me there was a Pennant further down, but we didn't go to see it. And the Landmaster was not there on Saturday.

This being police premises, I took some very clandestine pics last year, which were too poor to post here. But I sent them to Stanher anyway...there was a primered Herald, which was in two pieces from the looks of it, it was against the wall on the left side. Behind the Herald was its rear wheels and axle, lying separately. Beyond the Herald, there was a modified Padmini lying on its side. The Esteem is a new addition there.

Recently I got to know of this poor little 'mouse' (a.k.a 'Bug' Fiat 500C) from balaji (chanu) and also one of my neighbours, who got his previous car repaired at the garage where this car lies.

'finally got to see it today. I could get no details from anyone I asked. I was told that it has been lying here since ages. A lot of things missing on it, doesnt look like it can ever be resurrected! Also the rear body has some mod done on it, looks like to accomodate the stepney wheel.

Equally saddening that the rims happen to be Herald ones!! 'wish I could save those atleast!

Just an academic question, possibly a bit off-topic:
In case of such unclaimed cars lying by the wayside, if one does decide to help oneself to some parts (possibly in full public view), what may happen ? As there is no real claimant, does anybody have the right to object ?
Further, if one may cart / tow the entire car away - to be used as a parts-bin, and dismantle it before anyone realizes, what may happen ?

This is not aimed to encourage pilfering , but simply seems to be a way to make the best use of what will ultimately rot away and be discarded..

Wasif,

This is very much a Russian one - UAZ 469 - This was one of the staples of Russian military and came as the replacement for the only Soviet Off Road Car GAZ - 69. Both as you may know were products of ZIS, the Moscow based Car manufacturer.

I reproduce some info about this car just for info and your interest in off roading

Quote:
The Uaz-469 reached legendary status for its reliability and off-road ability and was reserved for police forces and paramilitary .

In 1966, UAZ rolled out its pickup-truck/minibus UAZ-452, which received a warm welcome by the farmers due to its convenience and off-road capability. Although this automobile was mostly reserved for police and army use, it has seen much more civilian use than most other UAZ cars

The UAZ-469 and its modifications has gained legendary status all over the world for its off-road ability, reliability and simplicity. Due to the vehicles reliability and capabilities it is to this day loved and used by off-road enthusiasts all over the world and is a welcome alternative to the US Jeep, British Land Rover and Japanese Land Cruisers due to its lower costs and similar characteristics
Unquote:

Now this vehicle is available in a Civilian Version and I had the pleasure of experiencing it personally in one of my trips to Moscow

I am attaching a picture of the current civilian verssion UAZ - Patriot

Best Regards & Drive/Ride Safe

Ram

Been seeing that Land Rover rotting for ages.

Aurangabad had quite a few interesting vehicles courtesy the missionaries, and recently a lovely very original Citroen H van was bought from there to Pune. Also a VW splitscreen ambulance came to Pune a couple of years back, but that I think is now exported.

Absolutely! A perfect Series III Station Wagon, rotting away for god knows what reason. The body has held its own though.

Wish the owner was traceable, so the car could be bought and saved.
