If the car is completely restored to original spec then 1.6 is cheap. It costs atleast 3 lakhs to restore a Fiat to original spec with Italian cosmetics et al. But post your pics then only can we comment.

It must have in Italy. It came only around 1959 in India.

first of all check the model year, it cannot be 1957 .also the asking price is not at all realistic. For your info, last sunday ,a 1957 fiat elegant in KERALA with about 90 percent originality second owner car,was sold to a shipping magnates son in Cochin for Rs.100000/-.a teambhpian helped him get this particular car.
Usually good fiat selects sell for between Rs.50000/- to Rs.75000/-

Isnt that nothing but the same select that came in '59? Its only a year after that that the badge was replaced with the FIAT 1100 badge.

Thanks for the information. I was thinking of sending my cousin to see the car if the fellow BHP-ians were feeling that the price were reasonable. But now,I think I should not attempt to bargain for this car. By the by, i would be obliged if anybody can inform me about any fiat selects available in Kerala. I had seen a car 2 months ago which was almost in scrap condition and without any valid papers and the seller was asking 60k for it.The sellers in Kerala (I think whole over India it's the same)are now asking exorbitant amount for all old cars now a days!

There is a fiat select for sale in Trivandrum.asking price was Rs.60000/- or so.saw the ad in olx website.I think it is posted somewhere in this thread.Regarding the asking of exorbitant amounts, what is more relevant is whether the cars have got sold at even 1/3rd of the asking prices.
I know of a person who asked Rs.2.5 lakhs for an average elegant and finally the car got sold for Rs.75000/-

Ajay99 thanks, your point is well taken. Thats truly the realistic price as you say.But when we go to buy, we see all sorts of higher end price tags and adamant sellers. Some become emotional and say they would never sell the car if the price offered is below Rs X and so on. Many buyers are gullible and end up buying such Fiats at much above Rs 1 lakh too. Many old classic and vintage car deals are done at unrealistic prices. But must also say that a majority of us are quite wary and get good realistic prices and even bargains.
A buyer must always be patient, look for many cars over a large period of time and then select to strike a reasonable deal. The price range must be researched well and discussed with car lovers who know much about the values.
