Very neat! All this time I thought there were only 2 in India - this doesn't look like either of the other two, must be a third. Lovely!

A similar car was in BombAy for repairs, taken down south, with someone who has about 14 cars and is migrating. 4 cars are leaving the country , balance will remain in India, at least for the time being!

I think that there still only 2 such cars in India. Fitting a set of new headlights is not really ingenious. I may be wrong though, but I feel thats unlikely.

Well, as far as I know one can only take one family owned vintage car abroad, provided it was in long term ownership. That collection also has cars which are post 1960.
VCCCI is supposed to be involved when a vintage car is being exported, maybe they may know more. Regarding the 600, a change in number plate from Delhi to Maharashtra makes me wonder what is going on, the interest is just academic.

Cheers harit

There are only two Mercedes 600 W100 known and documented in India.
One, the ex-President of India's car now in Pune.
Two, the ex-Shah of Iran car apparently now running, and maybe even still in Mumbai. It is apparantly this car which is shrouded in secrecy, apparently change in registration happened, apparently went south, apparantly changed ownership, apparently..... whatever.

Till one sees proof of more W100's in India, I will believe that only two of this model ever came into this country.

Very nice. There is another one in Maharshtra, apparently ex-President of India. You can see the three doors. Could not take a better pic as there was no space to take a clear shot. Just noticed that while the Faridabad car is a stretch, it still has only 4 doors. The ex-President of India car actually has 6 doors.

Cheers harit

Re: Vintage & Classic Mercedes Benz Cars in India

There are 3 pics floating of 3 different "LOOKING" w100's taken in India = 3 cars unless the Hyderabad car is the repainted Mumbai car = highly unlike going by the detail in the hyd car pic posted here recently. There is a w100 car for which I am witness & privy to parts supply to a south city whose location I was requested not to disclose. Since it is not Hyderabad therefore the question.

3 different looking = LWB Ex Pres car is black, Mumbai/Ex Mumbai SWB is Blue black, Hyderabad is black (as seems in the pic). Then there is the potential 4th one I mentioned again black!

Just noticed Hyd car is missing headrests, which the mumbai car had, but the paintwork seems newish and so does the front bumpers being unaligned

The engine was finally rebuilt V12? I test drove this car in Kolhapur in 1998 when it was for sale there. This example is ex Chez embassy car, Delhi and then landed up with the gent in Kolhapur. It only had one paint split on the rear most right fender, otherwise she was INTACT. I was looking for daily driver and the non power steering and suspension which was in need of attention did not motivate me to take chance as a daily driver = the only reason i did peruse any further. I believe the car went to a stable in phultan near pune/pune. Saw it again in Mumbai after a gap of 10 years. Recently the car has been idle long enough between the repaint and the engine rebuild, i wonder how the paintwork is holding up!?

Re: Vintage & Classic Mercedes Benz Cars in India

W126s are great older cars but not sure if they can be classified as vintage or even classic yet?

Re: Vintage & Classic Mercedes Benz Cars in India

Somebody sure loves them 116s.

Well here is another one for sale in Mumbai. Not sure if the colour is original but from the pictures it seems an decent condition for its age.
