Re: Vintage & Classic Mercedes Benz Cars in India

Here is a great find in Kolkata! This 170V Roadster has been found rotting in Kolkata and has been rescued.

The car has found a great home and their in-house restoration team should be able to put this car back on the road. It will take a great effort and could cost considerable amounts to bring back to originality. But I am sure that in the end, the result would be worth it.

The owner was visiting Bangalore last week and he had shown us these pictures. He was excited but at the same time seemed rightly a bit overwhelmed by the task on hand.

Wish the Father & Son Restorations all the very best on their latest venture

Re: Vintage & Classic Mercedes Benz Cars in India

Thanks, nice images.

The W123 T seems to be sitting a bit high on it’s wheels? It is supposed to have self levelling hydro pneumatic controlled suspension.

Either it is wonky, or it has been replaced with non standard springs. I have seen this before. The self levelling suspension is very robust, but when it breaks down can be a bit of a bother to get fixed.

I know of two cases where the self leveling rear was replaced by standard shocks - a 280TE and a 190E 2.3 16V

Yes, that happens. You need quite a bit of special knowledge/experience and special tools to fix this self levelling marvel.

I have often seen the T-wagons with standards shocks, or like this case I don’t think they are standard. I think they have fitted non standard shocks, so the cars sits a little higher. Lot of these cars still drive around on a daily basis in parts of Africa and you want the best ground clearance you can get. Comfort takes second place!

The T-Wagons are very sought after and are becoming very rare. Lots of saloons, such as mine and coupes around.

I had a 190E 2.3E with a swapped rear suspension but it was done so badly and the car was in such a bad shape overall that I parted it out.

The light blue W123 is mine, the SLS was swapped for standard shocks earlier in it's life. Works like a charm for me, the ride is great the only problem is when the car is fully loaded I end up seeing more of the bonnet. The wheel wells look empty because I'm running 14 inch tires with lower profile tires.

If you often run fully loaded you might want to look for some other springs. These days there are progressive springs that help out a bit keeping things on an even keel.

I think the W123 is one of those rare cars that looks good in just about any colour. But this light blue looks really good on it! Cherish it, they are becoming increasingly rare!

Re: Vintage & Classic Mercedes Benz Cars in India

My friend Viren Parikh seems to be on a R129 spotting spree. Another SL, this time a blue one from Mumbai.

Re: Vintage & Classic Mercedes Benz Cars in India

Bumped into an old neighbourhood friend

Spotted it while getting my emissions checked

Took a quick look. When I used to see it 30 years ago, it had no kit and was standard

Vintage & Classic Mercedes Benz Cars in India-img_1126.jpg

In a retrospective, he has put US headlights

Vintage & Classic Mercedes Benz Cars in India-img_3396.jpg

Even worse, he has attached a horse on the front

We used the spot the car parked outside a neighbouring house while the owner was riding neighbouring fillies.

Followed it back into the dark confined spaces of UB City

Sorry, the lens had a smudge on it!

that silly horse is a pedestrian hazard! if at all, he should mount it closer to the base of the windscreen
