I do remember 501 as well.

1234 also was sold to some one in Chennai - as a result of the first huge hike in petrol prices in India which was in the early 1970s where Petrol went up from around INR 1.25/litter to circa INR 3/litter in Trivandrum.

Best Regards and Drive/Ride Safe

KLT-501 is still in the ladys name as per KERALA RTO records and KLT-1234 in the son's name you have mentioned above

Hi Sir,

Omar Khayyam was an author who wrote a book called "Rubaiyat" which was a collection of poems, remember this name as it was frequently mentioned at home by my aunts when i was young, there must be a copy of the book somewhere at home. Confirmed the same with a search in google as well. May be it was some kind of a play based on the book, thats how it looks like in the picture. My two bits.

regards,

Srinand.

The lady also had a 1948 Cadillac (KLT-690 ? or some 3 number combination of those). Car was sold in Bangalore by her nephew in the late 70's / early 80's. In fact, KLT-501 was bought to replace it, after uncle died and she did not want to be associated with the car.

I was just born too late to have saved some of these family beauties

Ram,
I knew exactly which Chevy you were referring to. In fact I think I have seen both cars side by side (unless my old brain is now playing tricks on me).

KLT-501 holds special memories, Dad learned to drive in it, besides driver Sankara Pillai. I remember crushing my younger brother's fingers between those massive doors!

My Mom's side also had a 1951/52 - should have been registered KLR-something. It was black and spent most of the time at their estates in Kanjirapally and Devikulam. Again sold mid-70's.

While looking for info on 1937 Darbhanga RR in the Deoghar Ashram, came across this pics of Sri Sri Thakur Anukul Chandra with his Hudson.

The picture could be of a participant of the "Puli Kali" (Tiger/Leopard Play) of Kerala, which is performed in Central & North Kerala during Onam festival and in Southern Kerala during Muharrum as well....The Car - It looks like a 1949 Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe . It reminds me of a similar car ....Best Regards & Drive/Ride Safe Ram

Did you notice the war paint on the fenders? It seems that cars upto UP had war paint on mudguards, also in Agra as seen on a Morris I posted in another thread, Kolkata was not the only place to have this.

This is a Bedford bus, Ceylon Tours were quite popular for touring Sri Lanka.

See the flipped picture - now its right side and only Harits wm is now wrong.

OK from this we can see its a RHD. So its not 1234 as it was a LHD. I don't remember about 501 though (ll this assuming its a TVM/Kerala Picture)

Best Regards & Drive/Ride Safe

KLT-501 was RHD. It did not have the sun visor though (at least when I used to see it). It did have rear wheel spats.

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

OK, the Chevy picture in correct perspective. I was forced to learn about flipping an image, its so easy.

These two pictures are a puzzle, some tantric rituals, or what? And the car may be a pre war Morris?

Cheers harit
