Hello Everyone,

The Statesman Vintage car rally is supposed to be on the 9th of January 2011. As usual a judging will be a day before. I hope to meet some team bhpians at the venue and otherwise also. Hope to see some great cars this time. I would be taking loads of photographs and think the others would also.

I will of course be there on the 8th and 9th driving my friends super Beetle 1300S. Will also take as many pics as possible, as dad has generously offered to by me a new camera Would also be great to meet fellow Bhpians and plan classic events through next year, especially John Milne's and mine proposed drive to Shantiniketan.

I will try and be there. This will be my first. But I do not have a vintage car to take part (although my Alto already looks vintage). But I hope to take some snaps at the flag-off.

What about entry passes? Last year Sourjya Pratim Mitra (SP_Kolkata on TBHP) gave us passes - this year i don't have any.

anyways - wil definitely try to make it.

Venue should be Fort Williams - back gate towards Princep Ghat??

We always enter our Ford 1928 Model A, my uncle/dad drive it every year.
I will be travelling and will not make.

Yes Prithvi i know you will be driving the beetle that you drove last year. I was with you in the same car .

Judging starts from at about 11am in the 8th and the rally is next day and starts at about 8 am.

Yes it is Fort William. As far as i know there is no pass system.

The Statesman Newspaper will carry time & date of the Sunday Rally.

The best day to see the cars is Sat. 8th when the cars are brought in for the Concours judging which starts around 9am and can run till 4pm.
They have three sets of judges, Mechanical usually the Army, Originality and Fit & Finish. There are very few spectators and lots of time to check the cars out and speak to the owners.

SUnday is the "Big Day" with lots of activities. Flag off for the Rally portion is around 9am with the oldest starting usually with a great commentary on each car as they leave. About 120 cars & bikes participate so it takes some time for all them to leave for about a 20 k rally through the city with the route map given to them as they leave, The Rally is divided into sections requiring certain average speeds with check points along the way and a few secrete ones.

During the time they are out of the stadium there are a number of things happening on the stage. Once all the cars return the Judges tally their scores with the Concourse part out of 100 points and the Rally part out of 50 points and then they determine who are the trophy winners. These are ceremoniously awarded with lots of Fan Fair!

It's my most favourite Car Event as it includes the Concours & Rally in one event with such a broad spectrum of cars from Kanoria's 1906 Renault and a Douglas motorcycle about 1918 onwards.

Have just received my rally kit. I will be in my 1947 Wolseley (Rally # 90).

Judging starts at 9 am on 8th and cars would assemble at around 7.30 am on the 9th.

Just returned from the judging for tomorrow's rally. The rally is in a mess (as usual). Badly organised. Rally numbers did not arrive on time. When they arrived, they were all mixed up. Many people could not find theirs and some were duplicate! Marshals did not know where to guide the cars. Judges did not follow any FIFO sequence.

Besides, I am also eager to know why they don't display the timings/points in public on the day of the rally.

Did anyone else also have this experience?

Visited the judging event at Eastern Command Stadium ,Fort William today while at Kolkata in the afternoon.I am now back to my home town so I won't be there tommorow for the main event!

The congregation was a treat to the eyes. The level of restoration of the better cars, rivals the best in the world.The Rolls Royces, Rileys, Rovers,Jaguars, Hudson,Packards,Auburn,Nash, Adler, Wolseleys,Cadillac, Chevrolets, Hillman, Fiats,Plymouths, Morrises, Humber,Buicks and many many more, apart from the exquisite bikes of yore.
