Re: Cheap but comfortable car for 10 - 12 lakhs | Can't be too showy

Given the use case, a white colour Brezza vxi would do just fine. It's absolutely inconspicuous, close to 10 lacs, and it's a Maruti for that peace of mind which contractors would want given their extensive travel.

Since, GTO mentioned in one of his update that Maruti is being ruled out due to lack of a diesel engine.
I would say Tata altroz or Honda Amaze would make most sense, perhaps Hyundai aura as well.
Tata and Hyundai have good service network and should suit him well.

May I suggest the Renault Triber?

Pros - Comfortable ride, good safety (recent 4 star Global NCAP tested), good fuel economy (18-22 km/l), moderately peppy engine for the city, flexible space at the rear - can always chuck out the third row seats when not required for additional boot space, doesn’t attract too much attention (unlike the Ertiga / XL6).

Cons - the 1.0 L NA engine is probably the only fly in the otherwise well put together ointment (no diesel either), apart from Renault A.S.S.

A discount Innova, basically, that gets almost all the essentials right. If only Renault plonked in a 1.5 engine!

We have 52 models under 12L budget and 29 (highlighted in Green) were already suggested by our fellow members. We are here to add more confusion to the buyer

Altroz was not in our suggestion (for what ever reason it may be) but still that was considered by the buyer. Hence proved again 'Not all five fingers are same'

I think Brezza/Urban Cruiser would suit his requirement. It’s got very comfortable seats with great suspension set up. The ground clearance would also help to get to some off beat locations.
If Diesel is a requirement, maybe he can wait sometime as there are news of Maruti bringing back the Diesel engines with Ertiga and Brezza.

Since he is a contractor by profession a SUV will be best suited for him. His preference of sitting in front passenger seat would normally require SUV with high ground clearence.

XUV300, Brezza, Bolero, Nexon will fix in his budget and does meets his expectations. These cars won't be of much showy

Ciaz came to my mind when I read the first post, but yes it's a bit flashy and has got a great presence. Baleno would be the best option with a sorted ride and modest-looking design, but not my pick being a Maruti.

Altroz white would be my personal favorite, provided that he has a good A.S.S available nearby. Moreover, TATA cars were always better in ride and seating comfort. If he is concerned about the TATA A.S.S or niggles then let him cut his check for the Honda Amaze.

A Toyota Yaris, used Corolla Altis or any Ford compact vehicle should be ideal for him.
