Cheap but comfortable car for 10 - 12 lakhs | Can't be too showy

Team,

A contractor just reached out to me for advice. He is 50 years old and has a delicate back, so needs a comfortable car to visit the sites of his clients. But it cannot be too expensive or showy. He wants a car in white colour that looks very modest. Even something like a used Innova is too much 'flash' in his industry.

Can you please recommend any modest car for <12 lakhs or so, with comfortable seats & suspension? He sits on the front passenger seat.

Thank you. Am sending him the url of this thread.

Ford Freestyle comes to my mind. Very understated but is a beast of a performer.

Entry is not too high, not too low.

Will give great mileage too.

If he is planning to retain the car for very long, I would say he can go with Yaris. It's comfortable, safe, reliable and is literally the opposite or being showy. It also has best in class ride quality.

Disclaimer: I am a happy owner of Yaris from more than 2 years now.

The option that comes to mind is the Maruti Vitara Brezza. Should fit him to the tee.

It'll be good if we can get the exact definition of flash in that industry.

I believe S Cross/ Ciaz/ Brezza is comfy enough but are they flashy?

Else he might have to go for a Dzire.

Maruti isnt flashy for the aam junta right?

May I just suggest a Maruti Ciaz? It’s supremely comfortable and well-priced under ₹12L. Not too high-key and is surely available in white.

Visit the sites of the Clients? Better to go with the all new BOLERO NEO. Even the base variant at 8.48 looks great, just add an ICE. Next one coming to my mind is Duster, which is available at alluring offers. Also Renault KIGER CVT is a very good choice at this price point.

Meanwhile I guess this question is shot by Mahindra marketing team itself!

His clients primarily have 2-wheelers, B2 hatchbacks, compact sedans and (a few) sub-4 meter crossovers. He cannot arrive in a better car then theirs.

How about a Duster? It appears more like a workhorse than flashy. It would be good for his back as well.

Since he does not want any 'flash' whatsoever, he could consider the Bolero.

It's reasonably comfortable & isn't flashy by any means.

Since he is a contractor, the abuse-friendly nature of the Bolero will suit him well.

Best choice would be a Wagon-R in white - just needs to add something that keeps his back in order while travelling. Dzire could be an option too.

If he wants a diesel, a used Etios would fit the bill since it has a good front seat - but getting a good one in white would be a challenge.

Re: Cheap but comfortable car for 10 - 12 lakhs | Can't be too showy

Considering the front passenger seat occupancy I can suggest the following from personal experience but my understanding of comfort might be way off though :
  • Tata Tigor : if ok with the Tata experience, comfort is something they get right, seat height to be watched, the extra bootspace in the Tigor might help in the profession.
  • XUV 300 : comfortable but might be flashy
  • WagonR : not very comfortable but the current one is a lot more comfortable than the previous gen.

Re: Cheap but comfortable car for 10 - 12 lakhs | Can't be too showy

Delicate back means two features that are very important.
Soft suspension and high seating position. We have a family member with back issue who refuses to sit in Punto as it fails in both criteria. He prefers only Innova, Ertiga, Wagon R type of high seating cars. He sits in front passenger seat and is 100% chauffeur driven.

At this 10-12L budget, I would strongly recommend a Vitara Brezza if sub 4m car or a SCross Zeta variant if he can accept the size 4.3m in length. Brezza definitely will gel well as a non flashy car. Next option to consider can be a WRV diesel.

One more non-flashy car that comes to my mind is Toyota Yaris. Best car for being chauffeur driven . Issue is whether he can sit in a low slung car.

I will recommend Renault Kiger CVT. Fits in his budget and can enjoy the driving smoothness too. In the Service front Renault is far better than Nissan. Hence not recommending Magnite CVT.

Cheers!

Honda WRV diesel. It has good seat comfort and excellent ride quality. The excellent fuel efficiency is another plus.
