re: Replacing my not-so-old Kia Seltos DCT

Hi,
I would suggest you to consider VW TIGUAN ALLSPACE.
Perfect upgrade over seltos in terms of space and engine
It is a milemuncher, excellent 5star German built quality, DSG is excellent for overtaking purpose. Good ergos overall.
Best part is peace of mind to go over bad roads.

re: Replacing my not-so-old Kia Seltos DCT

I would suggest one amongst the three below:

1. A new Camry (like GtO saysX it’s 90% Lexus at 60% of its cost)
2. BMW330i (like many have suggested, if driving pleasure is one of your very core reqmt)
3. An Audi A4 - (A combo of driving pleasure and for passengers alike)

re: Replacing my not-so-old Kia Seltos DCT

Very simple:

1) 330i is a no-brainer but it will be low-slung like the Octavia. Suggest you take multiple long test drives.

Options 2 and 3 are viable and very palpable if you are up for used cars:

2) Used G30 530d/530i. A step-up from 330i in every way possible (costs as well)
3) Used G01 X3. An SUV that has handling comparable to sedans

Hi Sandeep, it’s perfectly normal to be “neuro”tic about the poor safety of Seltos and as you are driving from Kodungalloor side to Kochi, there is no better car to pick than the 330i! It should be had when your “reflexes” are intact !!! This should require no more deliberation!

re: Replacing my not-so-old Kia Seltos DCT

The 330i is a great car but a difficult for rough use and bad weather. I am not sure about the situation in Kerala, but NCR gets flooded very easily with 1-2 days of rainfall.

Driving a BMW sedan isn't feasible in such conditions. Also you won't probably be comfortable leaving a 330i in bad parking spots. My suggestion would be to consider a safe beater car (like a Tata Nexon) in addition to the 330i if your budget allows.

I would get the Octavia 2TSI L& K. The leftover money should be saved up for an electric car <30L in the next couple of years.

Seems you and I are in the same boat. Look at the Volvo XC40 and/ or wait for the Tiguan facelift expected soon. If the Tiguan is 35-36 OTR, I will be a buyer else XC40 towards end of the year. If you get lucky, you might find a 2018-2019 Audi Q5 for 40-45L but they seem to be hard to come by where I am.

Hi,
I would suggest you to look at Tiguan allspace. I am a Keralite and our allspace has covered 24000 kms. I think it will match your needs perfectly. Please feel free to contact me.
Thanks

Honestly, I'd go for the Compass. I've test driven the Diesel Auto, and the facelift has really improved the smoothness. It's not DCT quick, but it doesn't need to be.

Your heart clearly wants the BMW 330i. Go for it.

Any other car you buy, you won't be able to live in peace, I can assure you that. In your post, you have been complaining about not being allowed to buy the car your heart wants throughout your life. So where's the confusion, buddy?

Pay the premium, get the BMW, revv away to glory!

My 2 cents on this...
1. Check out the C5 Aircross. It is mighty impressive, good drive-ability, comfortable and has a distinct character/look of its own
2. Check out used car options from Audi/BMW if budget is tight, you will be pleasantly surprised with options and pricing. If you are lucky, you can even land up with a barely used car. Check out the Audi Qs or BMW Xs

re: Replacing my not-so-old Kia Seltos DCT

Would suggest you check out the following 3 options:

1) Toyota Camry: A refined, luxurious and a perfect offering from Toyota at the moment. Wouldn't give you any headaches. It's also a plush ride and enjoyable to drive.

2) BMW 330i: You've already done your research on this. The upkeep would be expensive, yes, but a beemer will serve you well as the perfect no-compromise vehicle. I think you can give in to some indulgence, finally.

3) Citroen C5 Aircross: Test drove it recently and was mighty impressed. Not sure about the after sales bit though, they're still an infant in the Indian market.

re: Replacing my not-so-old Kia Seltos DCT

Your compromises are very similar to what I had in previous years. I can tell you there might be multiple products in the market but pick the one which your subconscious or heart says. You shall definitely get connected to one car by the test drives.

For a twisting roads in Kerala sedan makes more sense. Since we are all auto enthusiast our drives will be on variety of roads (Highways, uneven state highways, ghat sections, gravel roads, wet roads, etc).

Apart from the cars suggested here, I would like you to test drive the VOLVO XC40. This may swallow the entire budget you have mentioned. But it is very well packaged. I have not heard of maintenance costs so I wont be able to comment. I will wait for somebody to mention about the maintenance cost of VOLVO.

Skoda Octavia 2TSI L& K

Your answer is in your question. The way I see,
  • the budget is 2.5x
  • 2.0TSI is no thrill to drive, while 1.4 TSI was impressive two years back
  • with a budget going up to 50L, you cannot be satisfied with a car that costs 60% of what you could have got.

BMW 330i it is.

PS: The thread seems like it is Seltos' fault that you wish to sell it, while your calling is actually something else. Many of us have it though!

Why not a Harrier or the Safari ? Both are solidly built with a decent motor and automatic transmission. Tata quality has significantly improved, and they have a good service network.

You can get a new one along with a pre worshipped bmw for those thrill runs.
