Porsche pioneered the DSG 'box. They'd been working on it for decades now. It took them some time to engineer a dual-clutch 'box that could handle all that power and torque that the 911 and other Porsches are capable of. So what they did was lend the tech to VW so that they could use it on the lesser powered cars while Porsche kept working on it.

I could be wrong.

The 6-speed DSG on the Laura is the 'wet-type' while the 7-speed is the 'dry-type'. Viddy / Anshuman may elaborate.

At least on paper A3 8Y manual vs S-tronic(DSG) shaves of 0.5 seconds off the 0-100 accelaration

Porsche is the sports car division of the VW Group.

Ummm, and what does that make Lamborghini?

I'm not sure if we can say Porsche is the sports-car division of the VW Group. That's like saying Mini is the hatchback division of the BMW group.

If I am not wrong, Porsche was continually developing their version of the DSG for several years before their official association with VW.

Also, Porsche and VW enjoyed separate and independent development strategies that were distinct from each other and without influence from each other, especially when Porsche was an independent company in the '80s and '90s during turbulent times.

Re: Automatic or Manual - Which is faster?

not here to argue a point.

each marque which was once an independent entity is now being eaten by a bigger automotive giant in this collaborative world of technological excellence.

Hence Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Jaguar, Maserati etc are fading into the oblivion. The classic example is the MG, which was once a famous British brand is now a Chinese entity with a fiat engine
