1-month-old VW Taigun suffers a start / stop error: Need Advice

After driving diesel engines for more than 10 years my 1.0 petrol experience has been a mixed bag.

BHPian SDx recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Hi all, request your feedback/suggestions on the below issue I have been facing on my car after completing 1st month. Once it occurs persists all day unless I am going to the Service Center. Strange Coincidence? I have only used XP95 petrol till now, that too mostly from COCO Indian oil pump.

I bought home Taigun Highline AT on 25th Nov'22 and for the first 30 days, everything went well. After driving diesel engines for more than 10 years my 1.0 petrol experience has been a mixed bag. There were some wow moments with acceleration at high speed and some not-so-wow moments at lower rpm.

One fine Sunday morning (Dec 25), as soon as I started the car, the whole car started shaking just then I noticed the EPC light was on a bit longer than usual. Both went away when I put the car in D mode, followed by "Error: Start/Stop" on the instrument cluster. I visited Service Center on 26th Dec, "Error: Start/Stop" popped up on the screen with extra vibration/shaking when I started the car in the morning however by the time, I reached the Service Center the error was gone. The car was scanned, Software was updated, and electrical systems and the car's earthing were checked - no issues were found. Came back with the car, and everything seemed ok.

Took the car out on 28th Dec, and no errors popped up. Happily drove the car thinking something worked and the issue has been resolved but I was sadly mistaken. At one of the long red lights I realized that my start/stop function did not activate so, I decided to fiddle with the activation/deactivation button and there it was again "Error: Start/Stop". Back to the service centre on 29th Dec. No issues this morning, car started normally. This time they kept the car for 2 days. System scan, spark plugs were cleaned, they test drove the car 40-50 kms. They did not face any issues.

1st Jan'23 - Caught a break on the first day of the year. No issues, drove the car for 50 kms (up n down).

3rd Jan'23 - Vibration and Error Start/Stop is back.

On one of my visits to the Service Centre, I was told to turn on the ignition and then wait a few seconds before starting the car. If I am patient and follow these steps the error/issue doesn't seem to come up.

  1. Are the VW/Skoda 2.0 cars so sensitive? This has never been an issue with my 6yr old VW Ameo or any other car in the past. Even with Taigun, the first 30 days of starting the car in one go was fine.
  2. Should I learn to follow this rule and see how things pan out?
  3. Or, is there a genuine issue with the car which I need to get it resolved?

Much appreciate any help you can provide. The last few days have been very stressful, it's not fun seeing such errors/issues on a new car.

  • Video 25th Dec: Recorded in the evening.
  • Video 3rd Jan'23: Please feel free to skip from the 0.33 min mark to the 0.50 min mark. I think I forgot that I was recording the error.

Here's what BHPian _Piyush_ had to say on the matter:

I have experienced this issue in my Skoda Kushaq 1.5 as well. At times, a message start/stop error pops up on MID, very rarely, and after turning off the vehicle for 5-7 minutes, upon restarting the engine I have never received the error again.

Skoda ASS was not able to diagnose any fault with the car.

IMO it is not related to the fuel, I have faced this error on XP95 and on XP100 as well.
