49 bike owners charged illegally, media praises cops

It has been reported that 49 bikers were stopped by the Solur police around 9.30 am on May 30, 2020. The bikers were on the way back to Bangalore from a ride after the relaxation of the lockdown restrictions in Karnataka. A BHPian's cousin, on his Royal Enfield 650 and his friend, on a KTM Duke 390 were told that they had been overspeeding.

After holding them for around 2.5 hours, the cops allowed the stopped bikers to leave after paying a fine of Rs. 3,000 each. According to a biker, close to 50 bikers were stopped and those with lady pillions allowed to go. The cops gave them a receipt for "dangerous driving, overspeeding and disobedience to the police". There was no interceptor or speed cam used to ascertain this. While the cops had detained the bikers, some supercars were allowed to go through.

It must be noted that all these riders were clad in riding jackets, helmets and other protective gear. Further, a local newspaper has reported that some youngsters out on a "jolly" ride, were chased by the cops like in a movie and let off by the PSI after a warning.
