BHPians share their favourite car scenes from movies

As a teenager, I was pretty mesmerised by the first 7 minutes of the movie Transporter 1. It made BMWs magical for me and superior to other brands forever.

BHPian Omkar recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Action movies and car movies have a lot in common. Instead of combat, car movies have a lot of car action. Which is great and we get to see some great stunt driving and thrilling car chases. Cars have played an important role from time to time in movies. You have the iconic Aston Martins in James Bond movies, the DeLorean DMC-12 from the Back To The Future franchise, Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit, Mustang GT from Bullit, and so on and so forth.

Over the years in various movies or TV series, there have been moments where we as enthusiasts were glued to the screen. These moments made us fall in love with these machines even more. Here's a small list of some of my favorite car scenes right off the top of my head.

  • Grand Prix (1966) - If you love Formula One, this is a great movie to watch. James Garner did all his own driving in the movie. Here's the Monaco race from the movie.
  • Baby Driver - The 6-minute opening scene with the red Subaru WRX STI sets the tone for the movie. The stunt team had converted the AWD car into RWD so that the drifts looked crazy.
  • Need for speed - This scene might not be that popular, but I love this movie. This final race has the Koenigsegg Agera R, McLaren P1, Lamborghini Sesto Elemento, Bugatti Veyron, Saleen S7, and a Spano GTA. Yes, they're all kit cars with an LS engine, but still! Just the thought of these cars street racing is insane.
  • Gone in 60 seconds - The final chase scene with the 1967 Shelby Mustang GT 500 is widely popular. We all fell in love with Eleanor after watching this scene.
  • Rogue Nation - A typical Tom Cruise style chase scene with cars and bikes. All in all a good action sequence with lots of BMWs.
  • Tokyo Drift - Sean's introduction to drifting is a great scene.

Here's what BHPian vredesbyrd had to say on the matter:

If I have to be selective, then my absolute favourite is the chase from Bullitt (1968).

Second one comes from Driver (1978).

I don't really like chases in modern movies as majority of the chase is special effects/CGI.

In fact, I have a wave going on about watching movies from 1960 to 1990s with friends on Discord

This is mine from Rush 2013. There are actually many scenes that a car lover would enjoy in the movie. But this particular scene, I am sure, not only the car lovers, but a layman would also enjoy!

Also needed here - pretty much all of the movie “Rush”.

Further adding spicy bollywood masala to an impressionable mind - the ICICI bank robbery scene from Dhoom 1

Why leave the bikes behind!

One of my favorites, I was totally in awe when I saw it for the first time, plus that Ducati.

On a lighter note unfortunately this became a role model for Bangalore riders, as till date lot of them replicate this by riding on the wrong side of the road.
