Chinese EV maker BYD is considering a new midsize electric SUV for the Indian market. The new model could be showcased at the Bharat Mobility Show next year.
BYD’s new electric SUV for India is expected to be positioned below the Atto 3 and could be priced around Rs 20 lakh. It will compete with the Tata Curvv.ev and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and Maruti Suzuki eVX.
Rajeev Chauhan, head of Electric Passenger Vehicles Business at BYD India, said, “There are many auto companies in India doing some small or big research, including ours. There is a plan to introduce an SUV priced between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 50 lakh, which will be decided based on the study’s outcome.”
“Our products are not positioned in the Rs 15-25 lakh market – that is a large market, and we are on that journey. We need these learnings to develop the right business case to enter the next orbit,” Chauhan added.
BYD will launch the eMax 7 electric MPV next month. It is the replacement for the e6. The new midsize electric SUV could arrive in H2 of 2025.
