BMW Concept X2 revealed at 2016 Paris Motor Show

BMW has unveiled the Concept X2 at the ongoing Paris Motor Show. A production model of this concept is expected to go on sale from 2018. The concept thus previews the sixth SUV model from the German automaker. It will share the platform, parts and powertrain with the BMW X1.

BMW claims that the X2 will essentially be a sportier iteration of the X1, similar to what the X4 is to the X3. It will be based on the UKL platform that also underpins the upcoming Mini Countryman. On the outside, the concept X2 gets rather distinctive styling that differentiates it from all other SUVs from the Bavarian automaker. The front gets an over-structured bumper, a large air dam and an inverted iteration of the kidney grille. The grille is surrounded by slim headlights that feature LASER technology. At the rear, the Concept X2 gets a massive bumper area, a roof mounted spoiler and wraparound LED taillights.

The company hasn't revealed any specifications of the Concept X2 yet. However, the production model is expected to borrow engine options from the X1. These include a 192 BHP 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel that will be offered in different states of tune. A performance-oriented M-trim will also likely be introduced later in the model's lifetime.
