The new-generation engines are expected to significantly reduce the CO2 emission levels from the company's future models.

BMW is reportedly working on a new generation of IC engines. According to a media report, the range of new generation IC engines from BMW will comprise of both petrol and diesel units and will be offered in six and eight-cylinder configurations.

Reports suggest that BMW will develop a completely new cylinder head for its engines. The new-generation engines are expected to significantly reduce the CO2 emission levels from the company's future models.

The decision to develop new-generation engines by BMW comes at a time when most car manufacturers are working on achieving carbon-neutrality. BMW's two main rivals, Audi and Mercedes-Benz, are now working on introducing more EVs. Audi has even announced that its last IC-engine powered vehicle will be introduced in 2026 and the company plans to discontinue combustion engines entirely by 2033.
