Brought home a BMW 330Li: 13 observations after 1 week of ownership

I've driven it for 600 km so far & the performance of the car is more than adequate for my driving style.

BHPian tech_mate recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Glad to share I finally took the plunge and brought home a 330Li luxury line.

Thanks to all the members here for answering my questions and sharing their experiences, which eventually persuaded me to follow my heart, and I can’t be any more satisfied!

Booking and delivery experience was pretty good, quite prompt and transparent.

First week with the bimmer

The good bits

  1. Covered 600 effortless kms, mostly highway, and performance is more than adequate for my driving style. There is always sufficient power on tap with mostly the right gear to pull out from.
  2. Visibility up front and through the mirrors is excellent, making it easy to manoeuvre in city traffic.
  3. Ground clearance is sufficient to clear the most notorious speed humps around my area.
  4. Ride is supple, close to ideal for Indian road conditions, absorbs bad / non-existent roads well if driven with caution.
  5. Interiors are good quality, and the I-drive system is just a gem! Took me less than 15mins to figure out most of what I was looking for.
  6. Rear seat legroom is to write home about. Easily challenges the higher segment.
  7. Sound system is pretty good, but still, need to spend time fine-tuning it.
  8. Panoramic roof is good only for those early morning drives around Pune, otherwise, it tends to heat up the cabin and lowers the effectiveness of the AC. I prefer to keep it closed most of the time.
  9. Boot space is adequate for a small family like mine, but yet to go on long-distance drives to fully utilize the capacity.

The not-so-good bits

  1. Turning radius is relatively large and I need to be conscious about the length of the car while making U-turns. Shouldn’t be a big deal once I get used to it.
  2. Speed warning gongs are driving me crazy, as I am sure it’s bothering other enthusiasts as well. What’s the best way around it without having to code them out?
  3. Missing rear sun blinds! My 4 yr old does not appreciate it. Even worse, BMW does not even have it as a part of its accessories.
  4. Rear AC is just adequate for Pune winter afternoons. Not sure what to expect in summer.

Yet to get a hang of fuel efficiency on highway and city rides and will update once we have some more km under the belt.

I purchased the BMW mats from the accessories section. They are of excellent quality, heavy and fit well.

All in all, a beautiful package which caters to all in my family. Looking forward to some spirited runs now that we have covered about 600km.

More to follow.

Cheers!
