Carlos Ghosn flees Japan

According to a media report, Nissan's former CEO Carlos Ghosn has fled Japan. He is believed to have travelled to Lebanon.

Ghosn said in a statement that he had not fled justice but "escaped injustice and political persecution". He also said that he will no longer be held hostage by a rigged Japanese justice system where guilt is presumed, discrimination is rampant and basic human rights are denied.

In 2018, Ghosn was arrested in Japan over allegations of financial misconduct. He was later released on bail, but was barred from leaving the country.

Carlos Ghosn was born in Brazil, but his parents are of Lebanese descent. He was raised in Beirut and holds French and Lebanese passports.
