This post aims to introduce the problem and share a solution to a long-standing issue I have faced regarding clutch pedal vibrations on my Diesel Manual 2WD variant of Scorpio-N.
While I have a lot to share about my Scorpio-N (mostly good, including a comfortable solo cross-country drive with just 200km on the odo), there is one aspect that I want to discuss with my fellow BHPians that has troubled me since day one of ownership.
I have always felt decent enough vibrations in the clutch pedal during both upshift & downshift. Felt significantly more during releasing than when pressing. The problem was exaggerated when the vehicle was driven in 'Zoom' mode. It is difficult to describe how it felt but the closest explanation would be how it feels when you drag a metal object over a spinning rough surface (like sandpaper).
I raised the issue with Mahindra SS not once or twice, but thrice. And it was never resolved.
Each time, they would mention that they opened the clutch cylinders and couldn't find anything. They would further claim that this much vibration was 'standard' given it was a diesel engine. I test drove another vehicle from their inventory and yes, it too had the same problem.
However, I wasn't willing to buy their explanation. It just felt odd, driving a vehicle oriented towards premium experience and then having such petty issues.
I was about to escalate to M&M but for some odd reason, procrastinated and that email never reached the sent folder.
Last Saturday, I went for the scheduled 3rd service (20K km) and raised the issue again. While their response wasn't assuring (as always), the mechanic mentioned that he would try to bleed the clutch and see if it helps.
When I test drove the vehicle after service completion, I was delighted. The vibration was miraculously gone. Like gone. It was just surreal.
I waited about 40 mins. for the mechanic to return from his lunch so I could have a chat with him. He mentioned that he just did clutch bleeding and nothing else. I thanked him a lot for the awesome job he did on an issue that nobody so far even acknowledged was a problem.
If you have also experienced this issue, then what was it that fixed it? And if you are still facing the problem & have no clue what to do, just try clutch bleeding and it may help. Whatever the case, let me know in the comments.
I will provide a long-term update on the issue. Who knows how long this happiness will last.
PS: I am still struggling with another problem (hard shifts on 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear). But will address them sometime later. Right now, time to take my left leg for a joy ride.
