Customers cancelling bookings; demand refund from dealers

According to a media report, as dealerships reopen post the lockdown, customers are cancelling bookings and demanding a refund.

At present, cars are being delivered to those customers whose transactions were completed before the countrywide lockdown was announced. However, if booking cancellations continue, dealerships won't have any pending deliveries left over the next few days.

While dealerships have opened for business, customer footfalls are negligible. The report states that in India, more than 70% of new cars are sold on finance. But, the ongoing pandemic and economic uncertainty has forced customers to maximise savings and avoid debt.

It has been reported that dealers are expecting customers' footfalls to increase in the coming weeks. But, this would depend on the lockdown restrictions being eased.
