Daimler to start eActros electric truck production in 2021

Daimler aims to start series production of the eActros electric truck in 2021.

The Mercedes-Benz eActros is a heavy-duty, three-axle short-radius delivery truck with a permissible total weight of up to 26 tonnes. It is powered by electric motors positioned on the rear axle. Three lithium-ion battery modules are placed within the frame of the vehicle, which power the electric motors. The eActros has a claimed range of 200 km on a single charge.

Martin Daum, Head of Daimler Trucks and Buses Division told the media that 10 customers including supermarket chain Edeka and logistics group Hermes will be testing out the eActros this year. Another set of customers will test the vehicle in the forthcoming year.

In addition to Daimler, companies like Tesla and MAN are also in the race to develop an electric truck. Cummins has also revealed an electric truck concept - AEOS, which was followed by the unveiling of Tesla's electric truck in November 2017.
