Delhi-NCR: No re-registration of old diesel & petrol vehicles

The National Green Tribunal had extended the stay on the ban of diesel vehicles more than ten years of age in the Delhi-NCR region till July 13, 2015.

Now, the Regional Transport Officier (RTO), of this region, will stop re-registering diesel vehicles over 10 years of age and petrol vehicles of 15 years of age. This is the first step taken towards the ban of old diesel and petrol vehicles, to keep a check on the levels of pollution in the region.

The vehicle of this vintage will not be re-registered even if it has got an NOC (no objection certificate) from another state. The RTO claims that the city has 30,049 diesel vehicles; 4,606 are 10 years old, out of which 671 are private cars and 3,935 are commercial vehicles - taxis, light and heavy motor vehicles.
