DIY: Did a comprehensive service on my 23 year old Maruti 800 DX

The drum brakes were both in pathetic condition, both cylinders were jammed. he drum brakes were both in pathetic condition, both cylinders were jammed.

BHPian Leoshashi recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

The car had run only 1800 km in the past 1 year, but it was time for an oil change. Took this opportunity to also replace the spark plugs(were last replaced in 2016), brake oil(last replaced in 2020), air filter(last replaced in 2019), rotate the wheels, clean the brakes etc. Specially, the drum brakes were both in pathetic condition, both cylinders were jammed. Also lubricated the joints on steering column which significantly reduced the steering effort.

Took me 3 days for entire DIY as I used to work in free time only, but the results were worth it.

Parts needing replacement soon: Battery, last replaced in 2015, it's almost 8 years old and might need replacement soon. The Bosch C7 has helped in keeping it healthy during period of hibernation. Secondly, the brake shoes may last 5k kms safely, but will replace them during next cleaning whenever it happens.
