Dr. Pawan Goenka, now MD of Mahindra

Dr. Pawan Goenka has been promoted to the post of Managing Director of Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd (M&M). Meanwhile, Mr. Anand Mahindra, who was till now holding the position of Chairman and Managing Director, has been designated as the Executive Chairman of the company. Dr. Goenka will continue to report to the Executive Chairman and the Board of the company.

According to the official statement released, this step has been taken to follow the Mahindra Group's practice of keeping the position of Managing Director or CEO distinct from that of the Chairman. The statement further claims that a similar organizational structure has been aligned in all group companies over the past one year.

Dr. Pawan Goenka joined Mahindra & Mahindra in 1993 as a General Manager R&D. He brought with himself an experience of 14 years in the automotive domain. Dr. Goenka has played an instrumental role in the enhancing R&D capabilities of the company, and was also the driving force behind the introduction of the Mahindra Scorpio. He became the president of the Automotive Sector in 2005 and was given responsibility of Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors in 2010. He was further appointed as the Executive Director of the Board of Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. in 2013, and has now been assigned the role of Managing Director after serving the firm for 23 years.
