Greetings everyone and hope you are all having a nice day.
I am opening this thread to enquire about potential upgrade path for Vitara Brezza LXI variant (last-gen Facelift Petrol), I could not find a thread where my I was able to get answers to my query so I decided to post this here (mods - if there is something related that I may have missed, please let me know and this thread can be discarded)
Coming to the query, we own a 2021 Vitara Brezza LXI which has been doing duties as the family car over the past 3 years with numerous memorable trips and a hassle free ownership, however it being a base variant, it is fairly well equipped for a base model but understandably misses out or lacks a lot features that I feel are important these days, one of which always gets me is the lack of a multi-function steering wheel to control telephony and audio.
While the current setup of standard headunit is enough to manage as it has physical buttons and one can easily change tracks, adjust volume or receive/drop calls without getting distracted while driving, the problem will come if one upgrades to a touch screen headunit for Carplay/Android Auto functionality where we end up loosing the physical buttons and everything becomes touch based or the physical buttons offered by these headunits are too small and not easy to locate in a hurry, due to which my thought process is to look for a multi-function steering upgrade first before going to After-market headunit with Android Auto & Carplay.
There are a lot of accessories shops and also numerous videos online that do these upgrades where the steering wheel is taken out and steering-controls buttons panel is replaced on the same steering with a different OEM clock spring from a higher variant and everything is put back in place, but upon my research I was unable to find a part number just for the steering-controls button panel so I am not sure about the authenticity of the parts they are using and how and from where they are sourced?
Refer examples below, image sourced from internet for reference:
Through my research I have so far learned that to be able to do such a upgrade, one would need the above mentioned steering-controls button panel or a new steering wheel which will need to be paired with a clockspring(coil hub) that can accept the extra button functions wires as the base LXI clockspring will only accept the airbag and horn wiring harness.
After that one would also need another wiring harness that would run from the back of the clockspring and to the headunit for carrying the audio & telephony control commands (which I am unable to find much info, that would mean that this harness would need to custom fabricated for LXI variants and the higher variants get these controls as part of their main wiring harness from factory)
I have narrowed down the below possibilties that can or may work:
=======
Vitara Brezza Pre-facelift Diesel (ZDI):

Not exactly certain if the Baleno one would work on Brezza but the steering wheel design and shape wise looks exactly like the Brezza one, so I am guessing it should work.
This is my first time experiencing ownership of a car and I have zero to no experience with car modifications or retrofits.
I would like to use this opportunity to get advise of the experienced folks here in team-bhp to understand if this something I should go for and if yes, how to approach this? (Considering the car is still in warranty period)
If this is a feasible upgrade, what are the other things I should look out for or be careful about?
Are there any trusted workshops in Bangalore that one would recommend for taking on this task?
Thank you in advance.
Here's what BHPian Jeroen had to say on the matter:
Whatever you do, make sure your airbag still works. It’s also receives power and signal through the clock spring! Not something to take any chances with!
Here's what BHPian Mr.Boss had to say on the matter:
This is an easy job, plenty of aftermarket accessory shops do it these days.

It may look same, mounting dimensions are different though.Quote from BHPian vn_92:

Officially the warranty will be void with this change. But IMO warranty works good with relationship rather than terms and conditions.
