Gurgaon to soon get electric buses for public transportation

The Haryana Government has decided to introduce electric buses in Gurgaon. This decision is a part of the state government's aim to reduce carbon emissions and improve the public transportation system. The project might be expanded to other cities as well in the distant future.

The government's decision to introduce electric buses in Gurgaon's public transport system comes after a delegation from the state visited the manufacturing plant of JBM Solaris Electric Vehicles Limited in Poznan, Poland. This delegation, led by the state's Urban Local Bodies Minister - Kavita Jain, studied the advantages of switching to electric mobility in public transport. The government is now planning to take inspiration from the electric buses used in Poland's public transport system and fabricate a similar system in the state.

In the first phase of the project, the government will be introducing 75 - 100 electric buses in Gurgaon. The buses will likely be sourced from the JBM Group, which has a plant near Faridabad. The company currently manufactures CNG buses and will soon start production of all-electric buses as well. The government is claiming that each electric bus can save 4.25 lakh litres of diesel and reduce carbon emissions by 1,150 tonnes in 10 years of operation.

The cost of the project will be shared by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority, Municipal Corporation - Gurugram and Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC), in the ratio 50:40:10.
