Honda to launch 5 new SUVs in India by 2030

While the Elevate Hybrid has been ruled out, the Elevate EV will be introduced in the next 3 years.

SUVs account for 40% of the passenger vehicle segment in India. A lack of SUVs in its portfolio has resulted in a steady decline in Honda's market share. The carmaker now aims to bounce back with a new product offensive, starting with the Elevate mid-size SUV.

The Honda Elevate is the brand's first offering in the mid-size SUV segment. However, the company isn't relying on just one model to recover its market share. According to Takuya Tsumura, President & CEO, Honda Cars India, the Elevate is the first among 5 new SUVs that will be launched in India by 2030.

The Elevate will join the ranks of the Amaze and City in Honda's portfolio this festive season. The SUV will be offered with a 1.5-litre petrol engine. When asked if the car will get a strong-hybrid option like the City, Tsumura said that Honda had set a target of achieving two-thirds of its vehicle sales from EVs and the India strategy will also be aligned with the global plan.

So, Honda currently has no plans to offer the Elevate with a hybrid powertrain. That being said, the carmaker has said that a pure-electric version of the SUV is in the works and should debut in the next 3 years.
