Hyundai Kona Electric launched at Rs. 25.30 lakhs

Hyundai has launched its first all-electric vehicle in India, called as the Kona Electric. The electric SUV is priced at Rs. 25,30,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi), with an optional dual tone paint scheme for Rs. 20,000 extra.

The Kona Electric measures 4,180 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, 1,570 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,600 mm. It has a split headlamp setup with LED daytime running lights at the top and headlamps positioned on either side of the front bumper. The car does not have a conventional grille. Instead, it gets textured white plastic with a grey insert. At the rear, the car has double stacked tail lamps and a tailgate with an integrated spoiler. The SUV rides on 17-inch alloy wheels.

The Kona Electric comes with black interiors with ventilated and heated leather seats in the front, 10-way power adjustable driver's seat and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. It comes with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that has voice recognition, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity options. Other features include, electric sunroof, power windows, automatic climate control, cruise control, smart key and push button start among others.

Safety features include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Hill Assist Control, rear view camera, tyre pressure monitoring system and virtual engine sound system.

In India, the Kona Electric is offered with a 39.2 kWh battery that powers an electric motor that has an output of 134 BHP and 395 Nm of torque. It has four driving modes - Eco, Eco+, Comfort and Sport and comes with paddle shifters for adjusting regenerative braking. The claimed 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 9.7 seconds.

The Kona Electric has an ARAI certified range of 452 km on a single charge. The carmaker claims that the battery can be recharged to 100% in 6 hours and 10 minutes using an AC charger. It takes 57 minutes to recharge the battery to 80% of its capacity using a DC charger. Kona customers will be provided with a 7.2 kW charger that can top-up charge the vehicle within 1 hour for a range of 50 km.

Hyundai will be installing a charging network in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai in collaboration with IOCL. These chargers can recharge the battery to 80% of its capacity in less than 1 hour. All Hyundai dealerships selling the Kona Electric will be equipped with 7.2 kW AC chargers. Hyundai is also deploying a fleet of cars fitted with power converters to provide emergency charging support in the aforementioned cities.

Hyundai is offering a 3 years / unlimited km warranty on the Kona Electric and 8 years / 1,60,000 km warranty on the high voltage battery.
