Jaguar I-Pace Electric SUV Concept revealed

Following the automotive industry's tide towards electric mobility, Jaguar has revealed its full-electric SUV concept, the I-Pace. The company claims that production model of the I-Pace will be launched in 2018.

The I-Pace concept is powered by two electric motors that are supplied juice from a 90 kWh battery pack. The motors are placed on front and rear axles, thus resulting in an all-wheel drive system. Both the battery and the motors are claimed to have been designed in-house by Jaguar Land Rover. The British automaker claims that this powertrain is potent enough to develop 395 BHP and 700 Nm of torque, which is the same as that of the F-Type SVR sportscar.

According to the company's official statement, the I-Pace concept delivers a range of around 500 kilometers on the NEDC cycle. The SUV can be fully charged in around 2 hours through a 50 kW DC charging point.

Being an electric SUV, Jaguar claims that the I-Pace is more spacious on the inside than conventionally-fueled SUVs. A 12-inch touchscreen display is located on the centre console, while a smaller 5.5-inch secondary touchscreen is placed below it, between the two dials. The upper screen is used for navigation and in-car entertainment, while the lower one displays details about the infotainment system and climate control. Another 12-inch screen is placed behind the steering wheel and performs the duties of a digital instrument cluster. The car also gets a coloured Heads-Up Display.

Once the Jaguar I-Pace concept enters production, it will be the only competitor to the Tesla Model X.
