Jaguar starts testing the all-new XF sedan in India

British luxury carmaker Jaguar, has started testing the all-new XF sedan in India. A test-mule of the vehicle has been spotted in the city of Bangalore.

The new XF, which made its official debut earlier this month, is styled on the lines of the smaller XE sedan. It has an aluminium-intensive architecture, which makes it about 190 kg lighter than the current model. Jaguar claims that, the structure of the car is 28% stiffer than the outgoing car. While the length of the XF has shrunk by 7 mm, its wheelbase has grown by 51 mm and the company claims that the rear seats get 15 mm more legroom, 24 mm more knee-room and up to 27 mm more headroom than before.

The dashboard of the car has been complete redesigned. The list of features includes a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, 10-2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Dual View Technology (DVT), gear knob that pops up from the centre console and an XJ-like multi-function steering wheel among others.

The engine range for the XF includes two petrol and two diesel engines: 

  • 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged, petrol, 237 BHP and 340 Nm of torque, 8-speed automatic
  • 3.0-litre, V6, supercharged petrol, 335 BHP / 375 BHP, 450 Nm of torque, 8-speed automatic
  • 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, diesel, 161 BHP and 380 Nm of torque / 178 BHP and 430 Nm of torque, 6-speed manual / 8-speed automatic
  • 3.0-litre, V6, twin-turbo diesel, 296 BHP and 700 Nm of torque, 8-speed automatic

The XF will compete against the Audi A6, BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. It is expected to be launched in India in 2016.
