Jaguar XE diesel hybrid in the pipeline?

Jaguar revealed the XE sedan in September 2014. The Indian debut of the British car makers' rival to the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4 and BMW 3-Series is expected at the 2016 Delhi auto expo. While, the main seller for the car in India will be the diesel, spy photographers have spotted what could be an XE diesel hybrid on test in Spain.

The test mule was seen on test with a group of upcoming JLR vehicles, including the F-Pace and 2016 XF. Spotted by Carscoops, the car wore an "E" badge with an adjacent blue circle. The lack of visible exhaust pipes on the car could give rise to suspicions of a fully electric variant, but a license plate check by the website revealed that the car was powered by a 2.0-litre diesel. While JLR has not confirmed plans for a diesel hybrid XE, the introduction of one, at least in markets like Europe is a strong likelihood.
