Kamal Basu is Volkswagen India's new marketing head

Kamal Basu has been appointed Head of Marketing and PR by Volkswagen Passenger Cars.

Mr. Basu has studied marketing management from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai. For close to two decades, he worked for various advertising agencies like RK Swamy BBDO, Rediffusion Y&R and with Saatchi & Saatchi as CEO. He joined Skoda Auto India as marketing head in 2012.

Volkswagen India's domestic sales are lower than its exports. The company's sales and profits have declined sharply. It has also lowered its market share target for 2018 from 20% to 7-8% as it is struggling to find the right product and right cost structure to challenge strong players like Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai.

With the company in a less than desirable situation at the moment, Mr. Basu will have his hands full trying to turn things around. It may be noted that Skoda Auto India has not been faring too well either over the past few years.
