Lewis Hamilton wins the 2018 Hungarian GP

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) has won the 2018 Hungarian Formula One Grand Prix ahead of Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen.

Hamilton started from pole after a rain-affected qualifying session, with his team mate Valtteri Bottas on the second spot on the grid. It looked like Mercedes was likely to secure a 1-2 finish, but Vettel passed Bottas in the latter part of the race. The Finnish driver tried to fight back, but made contact with Vettel's car and lost a part of his front wing. This gave Raikkonen a chance to move up into third place.

Bottas' damaged Mercedes was soon within striking range of Daniel Ricciardo's Red Bull. While Ricciardo tried to pass the Mercedes on the outside, he collided with Bottas' car resulting in damage to his car. The Red Bull eventually overtook Bottas to secure fourth place. Bottas was handed a 10 second penalty after the race for causing a collision and finished fifth in the race.

Pierre Gasly in the Toro Rosso finished in sixth place ahead of Kevin Magnussen's Haas. Fernando Alonso in the McLaren had qualified in eleventh but managed to secure eighth place, while his team mate Stoffel Vandoorne was forced to retire due to a mechanical issue. Renault's Carlos Sainz finished ninth ahead of Romain Grosjean's Haas.

Max Verstappen (Red Bull) qualified in seventh, but had to retire in the opening laps of the race following engine trouble. Alfa Romeo-Sauber's Charles Leclerc also failed to finish the race.

With this win, Hamilton has extended his lead over Vettel in the World Drivers' Championship to 24 points. The next race will be held at Spa Francorchamps (Belgium) on August 26, 2018.
