Mahindra Electric & SmartE tie up for last mile connectivity

Mahindra Electric has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with electric vehicle (EV) fleet operator SmartE to introduce zero-emission shared mobility for last mile connectivity in Delhi-NCR.

As part of the partnership, SmartE plans to introduce 1,000 Mahindra Treo and Treo Yaari electric 3-wheelers in Delhi-NCR by March 2019. By 2020, the company is planning to deploy a total of 10,000 of these electric 3-wheelers across the country.

SmartE has partnered with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and offers nearly 80,000 rides to commuters on a daily basis. The company claims to have completed 30 million zero-emission rides in the past 3 years. It has installed an EV charging network that supports 800 vehicles at present. The company plans to upgrade this network to support an additional 1,000 vehicles in Delhi. SmartE aims to have 1 lakh EVs on the road by 2022.

The Mahindra Treo and Treo Yaari were launched earlier this year. The 3-wheelers are powered by a lithium-ion battery and have a claimed range of 170 km on a single charge.
