Mahindra planning to launch 3 new EVs in India

Mahindra plans to launch three new electric vehicles (EVs) in India by 2019-20. Mahesh Babu, CEO of Mahindra Electric Mobility revealed this information during a seminar held at the Norwegian Embassy in Delhi.

Out of the three new EVs planned, one will be an all-electric version of the KUV100, while the other two will include an SUV and a crossover. Mahindra claims that the new electric cars will have top speeds of 150 km/h, 186 km/h and 190 km/h and will be able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 11 seconds, 9 seconds and 8 seconds respectively. The company also claims that the new models will be able to cover distances of 250 km, 350 km and 300 km respectively on a single charge.

Mahindra is also working on reducing the time required to recharge the batteries. According to Mahesh Babu, it will be possible to recharge the batteries in 40 minutes, instead of 1-1.5 hours. The company also believes that batteries would get cheaper by 2020, which would help bring down the cost of EVs in India.

At present, Mahindra is the only manufacturer selling electric cars in India. Their current offerings include the e2o Plus, eVerito, eSupro and eAlfa mini.
