Mahindra Thar 5-door 4x2 variant spied up close

The Thar 5-door 4x2 would be considerably less expensive than its 4x4 counterpart.

Mahindra launched the rear-wheel drive version of the Thar last month. It seems the upcoming Thar 5-door is also likely to come in 2WD flavour.

A test mule of the Thar 5-door was recently spied up close. At first, it looked like any other 5-door Thar. However, a peek inside the cabin revealed that it was, in fact, a rear-wheel drive version.

The Thar 5-door will be aimed at customers looking for a practical family SUV. Besides offering the convenience of extra seats and a large boot, the Thar 5-door 4x2 would be considerably less expensive than its 4x4 counterpart.

The Thar 5-door is expected to get the same set of engines as the 3-door model. Whether Mahindra will plonk the D117 1.5-litre diesel engine in the 5-door version remains to be seen.
