Mahindra XUV500 facelift launched at Rs. 12.32 lakh

Mahindra has launched the updated XUV500 in India. The new model is available in diesel 5 variants - W5, W7, W9, W11 and W11 OPT and one petrol variant - G AT, with prices starting at Rs. 12,32,036 for the diesel and Rs. 15,45,038 for the petrol (ex-showroom, Mumbai).

The new XUV500 comes in a new exterior design package, however its dimensions are identical to the outgoing model. It measures 4,585 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width and 1,785 mm in overall height. Its wheelbase is 2,700 mm and comes equipped with a 70-litre fuel tank.

As part of the update, the XUV500 gets a new front end featuring a chrome grille with a mesh design and chrome strips. The grille is flanked by a set of new headlamps, which feature halogen projectors and LED DRLs. The front bumper has been redesigned and now features a narrow air dam that is part of the grille itself, an integrated scuff plate and L-shaped fog lamp pods with chrome inserts. Colour options include two new shades called as Crimson Red and Mystic Copper while other shades like Pearl White, Volcano Black, Moon dust Silver, Opulent Purple & Lake Side Brown have been carried over.

The side profile of the SUV is identical to the outgoing model, except for the chrome side cladding and the larger 18-inch dual tone alloy wheels. The ORVMs with integrated turn signals have been carried over unchanged. At the rear, the vertically stacked tail lamps have been replaced with triangular clusters. The tailgate has been redesigned and now has a chrome number plate garnish. The rear reflectors have been re-positioned, while the roof spoiler has been slightly reshaped.

Mahindra now offers soft touch leather on the dashboard and door panels. The centre console has a piano black fascia and golden trim along the edges. The multi-functional steering wheel has also been carried over, as is the twin-pod instrument cluster and the seats now come with tan coloured leather upholstery with quilted stitching. It comes with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with GPS navigation, Bluetooth, Connected Apps, voice commands with voice recognition, SMS readout and Android Auto along with Smart Watch connectivity. Except for the base W5 variant, automatic climate control is available on all variants. Other features include engine start/stop button, automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers, cruise control and brake energy regeneration among others.

Coming to the engines, the XUV500 is powered by an updated 2.2-litre, mHawk155 diesel engine. It produces 153 BHP @ 3,750 rpm and 360 Nm @ 1,750-2,800 rpm and is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or 6-speed automatic. The lone petrol variant (G AT) has a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine under its hood. It produces 138 BHP @ 4,500 rpm and a torque of 320 Nm @ 2,000-3,000 rpm and comes paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. All-wheel drive is only available on the W11 OPT variant with the diesel engine.

In terms of safety features, the XUV500 is offered with 6 airbags, electronic stability program (ESP), ABS with EBD, hill hold and hill descent control and an emergency call feature.
