Mahindra XUV500 sales cross 75,000 units in 27 months

Mahindra & Mahindra created quite a buzz in India with the launch of the XUV500 in September 2011. The car was offered with a long list of equipment and an affordable price tag (between Rs. 10.80 and Rs. 12.88 lakh ex-Delhi), which made it a great value for money proposition. As result, the XUV did not have trouble finding customers.

Mahindra has announced that the car has achieved a milestone by selling more than 75,000 units in just over two years since its launch.  The XUV500 was developed in-house by the company and introduced in two variants, W6 and W8. While the W6 was available only with front-wheel drive, W8 customers could choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive for their cars. The prices of these models have risen significantly since the launch. However, the company introduced a more pocket-friendly W4 variant at Rs. 10.95 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). While the new variant retains the same 2.2-litre, 140 bhp mHawk engine and 6-speed transmission from the W6 and W8, it comes with a shorter equipment list.

Apart from India, Mahindra introduced the car in various international markets like Australia and South Africa. The company has plans to launch the XUV500 in Europe and Chile as well.
